The weed isn't making you paranoid — the pot shop really does have cameras

Cannabis and liquor store protections for customers' and employees' private information has improved significantly since B.C.'s privacy watchdog issued recommendations.

B.C. cannabis buyers needn’t worry pot is making them paranoid if they see surveillance cameras at their retailer.

There are cameras.

But, not to worry.

B.C.’s privacy watchdog says the province’s liquor and cannabis stores have improved protection of customers’ personal information, a year after media stories indicated problems.

“I am encouraged to see that retailers have, by and large, taken action following the report to ensure compliance with B.C.’s privacy laws,” information and privacy commissioner Michael McEvoy said.

Canix raises $10M to expand its cannabis seed-to-sale platform across the U.S. and Canada

Canix today is announcing a $10m raise from venture capitalists. The company sees using the capital to expand throughout the United States and Canada, allowing it to scale its cultivation forecasting and production planning ERP platform to meet market-specific regulations.

The round was led by an unannounced firm — one that wishes not to be disclosed. Other investors include Altair V.C., Cathexis Ventures and Emles Ventures, and other notable angels. Canix won the top prize at TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield in 2020.
