The 5 Next States to See Legal Marijuana

Unless you live in the South, recreational weed is coming to a state near you

1. California made history in 1996, when it became the first state to legalize medical marijuana; next November, it will vote to allow recreational weed, and polls indicate the amendment will likely pass. "Then we will have reached the tipping point," says Angell, of the Marijuana Majority. "And with California having so many members in Congress, it will give a huge boost to our efforts to change federal law."

Las Vegas police face civil rights lawsuit over medical marijuana arrests

A former Las Vegas woman claims she and a guest were falsely imprisoned in 2013 after police searched her home and illegally confiscated her supply of medical marijuana.

Courtney Rogalski, a medical marijuana patient who now lives in Canada, and California resident Westley McNeal filed a civil rights lawsuit in August against the Metropolitan Police Department and several officers. In September, the defendants transferred the case from Clark County District Court to U.S. District Court.

Attorney Craig Anderson, who is representing Metro in the litigation, could not be reached for comment.

According to the lawsuit, Las Vegas police detectives searched Rogalski's home on Aug. 30, 2013, with a warrant signed by Justice of the Peace Cynthia Cruz.

Hear Leslie Bocksor Speak At The Marijuana Business Conference And Expo In Vegas Next Month

I have met a lot of cannabis industry investors over the years, and they almost always leave a bad taste in my mouth. They always give me the ‘we don’t want you, we just want your idea’ vibe, which has left me pretty jaded with the industry (which I’m sure people can tell from some of my articles). I don’t claim to be a genius, but I know I’m not stupid. I know what The Weed Blog is, what it can be, and what it will take to get there.

State to medical marijuana patients: Don’t freak out over delays to get your cards

If you recently applied to obtain a medical marijuana card, bad news: It could take months for the state to process your application.

The good news is, by Oct. 1, state officials should be back to rubber stamping applications in 30 days.

“It’s going to get nothing but better as we regroup and plan for the future,” said Pam Graber, of the Nevada Medical Marijuana Program. “We found ourselves with (an unusually) high volume of applications, but we are catching up.”

Starting in late spring, the Nevada Medical Marijuana Program received a rush of applications, which Graber attributed to the opening of a brick-and-mortar dispensary in Northern Nevada. The Las Vegas area’s only dispensary, Euphoria Wellness, opened Aug. 26. Two dispensaries operate in Washoe County.
