Inside Canada's First Culinary Cannabis Test Kitchen, West Blvd Cannabis

cooking in a kitchen

The founders are looking to bring marijuana to your pantry.

Despite its popularity with our neighbours down south, culinary cannabis isn’t something most Canadians are familiar with according to the founders of West Blvd Cannabis. They're aiming to change that with their multi-use interactive cannabis production space in the very-walkable Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood. Here, they will produce packaged goods for consumers under their own branding and collab with Canada’s top cannabis suppliers so they can shorten the supply chain—all through an educational lens.

A cannabis production facility has been approved in Lacombe County.

The county’s municipal planning commission unanimously approved an application by High Grade Farms Inc. to build and operate a 5,300-square-foot production facility on a 92-acre site about 20 km northwest of Bentley.

An existing homestead and workshop will be used as part of the operation and a new greenhouse for cannabis cultivation will be built, says the company’s application. About 67 acres not needed for cannabis production will be used to grow hemp.

High Grade Farms Inc. was previously approved for a 15,000-square-foot cannabis operation at the same location.

Cannabis beverage company Cann gets backing from Green Thumb Industries and celebrity investors

Cann beverages

Cann has landed a $27 million Series A venture financing, as the cannabis beverage company looks to grow its distribution to more U.S. states in 2022, the company said Tuesday.

Venture capital firm Imaginary Ventures led the Series A round, with cannabis company Green Thumb Industries GTII, -1.12% GTBIF, -1.14% as an investor.

Jake Bullock, co-founder of Los Angeles-based Cann, told MarketWatch the funding ranks as the biggest Series A financing of a venture-backed cannabis beverage company.

The fruit-flavored drinks are aimed at social drinkers, and contain micro doses of THC and CBD — much less THC than other cannabis beverages, he said. The intention is to aim at the much larger alcoholic beverage market that measures in the tens of billions.

‘Lovetenders’ ready to serve as Waterloo’s 14th cannabis shop opens in uptown

cannabis bud

Some expect to see a decline in the number of pot stores in 2022 as market saturation takes hold.

You can sit down in a green velvet love seat for a consultation with Courtney Fonseca.

As the fourteenth cannabis retailer to open in the City of Waterloo in less than two years, the new Hyerlove Cannabis shop at 1 King St. N is branding itself as a wellness collective with “lovetenders,” not budtenders, who aim to be more inviting in a market where differentiation can be difficult.

“I think anyone that’s in this industry would agree that Ontario didn’t necessarily roll it out in the right way,” said Fonseca.

Peer pressure key in drug driving decisions, study finds

driving

“Drug drivers more likely to be single, young males who often drive after using cannabis and who score high on sensation-seeking and impulsivity scales.”

An Australian systematic review of 219 publications found that peer influence is the most important social factor that would either induce or inhibit drug driving.

Citing the potential influence that drug driving can have on road crashes, investigators from the Queensland University of Technology sought to identify factors associated with drug driving to highlight knowledge gaps and, hopefully, “inform the design of more effective countermeasures.”

Researchers considered related information found on six different databases from Jan. 1, 2005 to July 31, 2021.
