Gwyneth Paltrow backs weed drink made by guy she used to babysit

So you’ve got a pot startup and Gwyneth Paltrow used to be your babysitter. Super cute! Now show her the money.

Last month, Cann — a sparkling, cannabis-laced beverage that gets you high — raised $27 million from investors as marijuana legalization rolls out in states across the US. That was after it nabbed the “Royal Tenenbaums” actress as an investor in an earlier seed round.

Nevertheless, winning over Paltrow wasn’t quick or easy, according to Cann co-founder Luke Anderson. In February 2020, he says he scored a meeting with the Hollywood star-turned-wellness impresaria to pitch the THC- and CBD-laced beverage, which had debuted months earlier in 2019.

How to use cannabis properly

vape

Cannabis is big business in the USA now that many states have legalized it for recreational use. Others have decriminalized the use of weed while in some states it is still against the law to possess or grow cannabis. The first thing to do is check that weed is legal in your location.

Why do people use cannabis, and is there a ‘proper’ way? For some people, cannabis is a lifeline to a more comfortable life. Medical cannabis can be prescribed for many ailments – especially those where chronic pain is a problem – as the plant has proven properties in pain reduction and other medical uses.

About one in six Canadians are exposed to cannabis smoke in their homes: study

woman smoking weed

Smoke-free policies in multi-unit housing “should protect residents from involuntary exposure to all types of second-hand smoke.”

A new study estimates about 17 per cent of Canadians living in detached single-family homes and multi-unit housing (MUH) in 2019 were exposed to second-hand cannabis smoke (SHCS).

That proved better and worse, respectively, than U.S. residents living in legal and illegal cannabis states, investigators note in the pre-proof study published online this week in the peer-reviewed journal, Preventive Medicine.

Impaired driving is the most prominent factor for serious road crashes in Canada

Over 40% of drivers have consumed alcohol and smoked cannabis and gotten behind the wheel, a new U.S. study found.

The latest MADD Canada statistics from 2019 show there were 86,864 alcohol and drug-related charges laid against drivers.

Statistics Canada says the police-reported impaired driving rate increased by 19% in 2019 from 2018.

“Alcohol and cannabis are two of the most common substances involved in impaired driving and motor vehicle crashes (in the United States),” said Priscila Dib, a postdoctoral research fellow in the epidemiology department at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in New York City.

CMHA Waterloo Wellington calls for more education on dangers of THC

marijuana cigarette

Gary Stephens didn't realize he was experiencing psychosis until he was hospitalized.

"It wasn't like Garry on drugs," he recalled.

"It was a different Gary."

“I had delusions,” he said, adding that he typically doesn’t like to use that word, “I was king and I had all this money and one day and I went out to look for it. I even went to an ATM and I am trying to get money out but there was no money,”

The former patient turned Canadian Mental Health Association peer support worker believes his long-term THC use triggered his symptoms of paranoia and altered realities.

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo Wellington (CMHA WW) says the number of people like Stephens seeking help is on the rise.
