The Surprising State That Could Be the Next to Legalize Weed

No, not California nor Nevada, and not one of the New England states.

It's looking more and more likely that voters in a key battleground state will be voting on marijuana legalization in November, and recent polling suggests it could win. That's thisNovember, not November 2016.

The state is Ohio, where a controversial pot legalization initiative is already well on the way to qualifying for the ballot, and its backers—or should we say investors?--have the cash on hand to make sure it does.

State board proposes Alaska's first marijuana regulations

Alaska’s first draft marijuana regulations, proposed Thursday during an Alcoholic Beverage Control Board meeting in Anchorage, address what it means to help someone grow marijuana and what local-option law will look like.

The meeting at the downtown Legislative Information Office attracted about two dozen spectators, who lined a large conference room, surrounding board members and agency staff at a table in the center of the room.

A general sense of optimism prevailed among the audience members, many of whom hoped to start marijuana businesses.

The town of York is being sued by a group of medical marijuana caregivers who claim that a recently adopted town ordinance violates state confidentiality laws.

Lynne Williams, an attorney based in Bar Harbor, is representing the caregivers, who lease space at a marijuana growing facility on White Birch Lane in York.

In the lawsuit, filed this week in York County Superior Court, the caregivers are referred to only as John Doe 1-8 because they have been granted anonymity under state law.

Stalled medical marijuana bill causes acrimony at Iowa Capitol

A debate over medical marijuana legislation is getting acrimonious at the Iowa Capitol, and is even spilling over into a fight over anti-abortion legislation.

Sen. Joe Bolkcom, D-Iowa City, opened the bidding on Monday by declaring that House Republican legislative leaders have a “moral obligation” to permit a vote on Senate File 484, which was approved earlier this session by the Senate.

The bill would allow Iowans with a range of health problems to obtain medical marijuana. Those conditions could include cancer, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other chronic and debilitating ailments.

Growing the Machine

The local marijuana industry has united. Now comes the hard part.

pending who you ask, it was the pitch of a snake oil salesman or a Humboldt County marijuana farmers' version of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech. Whatever your bent, it was an example of classic political oration with a heavy economic focus, an impassioned personal plea, with references to a way of life threatened by outside forces, and a dearth of specifics as to what's being proposed.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Cannabis and Pain

Pain is second only to severe joint damage as the most devastating symptom of rheumatoid disease. But unlike joint damage, joint pain is something that everyone who has the disease experiences.

Pain is a feeling. This can be a problem when it comes to relieving rheumatoid disease symptoms. A damaged joint is tangible. An x-ray or MRI will show and prove it. Sometimes, you can even see the damage beneath the skin; the joint is obviously deformed and distorted. It doesn’t look “normal” anymore.
