Lily Poulter’s agony continues despite fresh calls for medicinal cannabis trial

LILY Poulter vividly remembers the last time her shoulder popped out of its socket.

The nine-year-old was at school, engrossed in a test, when the slightest wrong movement caused the serious pain.

It wasn’t the first time it happened without warning and it will not be the last.

With her gap-toothed smile it would be easy to mistake Lily for a normal girl who adores learning and painting.

Yet she relies on opiate based medications every day to stay on top of her chronic pain caused by Ehlers-Danos Syndrome- a disorder which causes her points to regularly pop out of place.

She also suffers from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which overstimulates the nerves, making even the slightest touch painful.

Linn County takes lead in marijuana MIP legislation effort

Linn County officials are encouraged by a unanimous 60-0 vote by the Oregon House Judiciary Committee for HB 2313 which will allow schools to deal with students who have consumed marijuana the same as those who come to school intoxicated.

“This all got started after I talked with West Albany Principal Susie Orsborn,” explained Linn County Commissioner Roger Nyquist. “She told me about the challenges schools face when it comes to dealing with kids who come to school with marijuana in their systems.”

Currently, schools can suspend the students, but they can’t push the matter into the legal system or get the student help through the local Juvenile Department.

In the weeds: A conversation with a marijuana grower

The first thing that struck me about Mike Dawe when I met him about a year and a half ago was how tall and slim he is, how long and slender his fingers are, and how his big shoes suggest equally long and slender toes.

To anybody familiar with his chronic condition, all that comes as no surprise.

Mike Dawe says a federal rule could hurt his ability to take care of his illness. (CBC)

NH medical marijuana dispensaries still months away, unlikely before 2016

It's been nearly two years since the New Hampshire Legislature passed a medical marijuana law, but it's unlikely that the first dispensaries will open here until 2016.

"Evaluators" are still combing through the applications - each hundreds of pages long - from the 14 nonprofit entities vying to open alternative treatment centers (ATCs), according to the state health department.

"The applications are huge," said Eric Borrin, director of contracts and procurements for the Department of Health and Human Services. "They're requiring time to work through, and there's a certain amount of due diligence and fact-checking that needs to be done with respect to the responses that have been received."
