The clock for Florida is finally running down, and unless a miracle happens by Friday, it looks like the voters will get the last say on the issue of medical marijuana. With only a handful of days left in the legislative session, there is little hope of any marijuana bill passing the legislature; although, Republican Sen. Rob Bradley still remains hopeful.

“I promised those families that I would fight to the end, and we still have a few days left in session,” Bradley told the Tampa Bay Times. “I’m going to continue to try to find any avenue to make sure we deliver on that promise we made to them last year.”

BATON ROUGE – State Sen. Fred Mills, R-Parks, hopes that his second effort to enable Louisiana doctors to prescribe medical marijuana will clear at least the first hurdle — getting the bill out of committee.

Mills, a pharmacist who once led the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, is proposing Senate Bill 143, legislation that would develop rules and guidelines for producing medical marijuana and dispensing it.

The bill will be presented at 10 a.m. Wednesday before the Senate Health and Welfare Committee.

Texans suffering from chronic pain, seizures and other debilitating disorders will ask lawmakers Tuesday to support legislation that would allow them to use marijuana to treat their symptoms.

A proposal by Rep. Marisa Márquez, D-El Paso, would legalize marijuana for medical use and set up a licensing system for growers and dispensaries.

Chair of the House Public Health Committee Rep. Myra Crownover, R-Denton, put medical marijuana-related bills on Tuesday’s schedule the day after veterans came to the Capitol topublicly ask her to give the proposals a hearing.

It took a little while for Missouri Rep. Shawn Rhoads’ colleagues to wrap their heads around the idea of taxing marijuana and other illegal drugs.

“A drug dealer is supposed to show up and buy a tax stamp for his drugs?”Bill Lant, a Republican from southwest Missouri, asked during a committee hearing on the bill.

Most of the hearing went pretty much like that.

“They needed a little time to let the idea sink in,” said Rhoads, a south-central Missouri Republican. “About 15 minutes after the meeting, I had someone grab me and say, ‘I get it now.’”

The Fox poll marks the first time the news organization has found majority support for the issue since it began asking the question. It's also the latest in a string of recent polls that have, for the first time in their histories, found majority support for legalization.

A bill that would limit the size of medical marijuana growing operations in Oregon is generating angry opposition from some patients and activists.

The proposed measure, unveiled late Friday afternoon, is aimed at curbing the black market while prodding larger growers to supply the legal recreational market the state is developing.

This approach is winning wide support on the House-Senate committee charged with implementing the marijuana legalization initiative approved by Oregon voters in November. It also has varying degrees of support from many marijuana industry figures who want to develop a successful legal market in the state.

Chemists Alexis St-Gelais, Laurie Caron, and Hubert Marceau have a new specialty: the analysis of therapeutic marijuana. It has been a few months since their laboratory in Jonquière, PhytoChemia, got the certifications from Health Canada under the regulations on the therapeutic use of cannabis. PhytoChemia is the only laboratory to perform such analyzes in Quebec.

PhytoChemia, whose premises are located on the St. Francis Boulevard Jonquière, specializes in the standardization and control of the chemical quality of natural medicinal products, cosmetics or food. It was in 2013 that the three chemists applied for a license from Health Canada. It took almost a year for the application to be accepted.

One of the latest patients to begin the University of Alabama at Birmingham's study known as Carly's Law that uses a marijuana-derived medication to treat severe seizures is the young girl who inspired the legislation.

Carly Chandler, the 4-year-old from the Birmingham area who has a rare genetic disorder that causes multiple seizures daily, is expected to soon receive her first treatment of cannabidiol, also known as CBD, her father, Dustin Chandler, said in an interview.

"It's almost a little bit of shock that it's actually here," Chandler said, thinking about when he had walked the halls of the Alabama Legislature almost two years ago to start generating support for allowing use of the experimental medication to treat seizures.
