Americans have quietly relaxed their attitudes toward pot as more people have gained access for legal, recreational use. Weed is a cash crop in Colorado and Washington, just like corn or hay. In the places where it hasn’t been legalized or decriminalized—perhaps your fair state is next!—Americans appear far more concerned about crucial issues like education and inequality than someone sparking a joint in their backyard.

Ben & Jerry’s is not being bashful about targeting its most passionate demographic. It has concocted a new shameless indulgence to satisfy the munchies for ice cream lovers on perhaps the most relaxing day of the year: 4/20. On April 20th, the company will roll out the BRRR-ito, available in scoop shops nationwide.

For first-timers, Ben & Jerry’s suggests the Half Baked BRRR-ito, with one scoop each of Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie drizzled with chocolate fudge, topped with a crunchy cookie crumble and rolled to perfection in a chewy crepe-like wrap.

Fans can also personalize their BRRR-ito by choosing two scoops of any favorite flavor combo.

Listeners of KREL in Colorado Springs might have wondered if someone had spread cannabutter on their morning toast Monday when they tuned in and got marijuana programming instead of the radio station's usual sports news and talk shows.

If they turn their AM dial to 1580 again, they'll find out it wasn't a fluke.

Southern Colorado Radio - SoCo Radio for short - has launched the nation's first radio station dedicated to talk and news coverage of the legal marijuana industry, and it's attracted dispensaries as advertisers and hundreds of followers on social media.

SoCo Radio leased the former KREL-AM 1580 from Vero Beach, Fla.-based Pilgrim Communications on April 1 and began broadcasting Monday under the call letters KHIG.

Marijuana is Oregon's most valuable crop, an OSU pot policy expert says, but conventional farmers would swamp the market if they jumped into it.

Pot quality would suffer and Oregon’s conventional farmers would swamp the market if they turned their skill, equipment, land and infrastructure to marijuana production, an Oregon State University expert says.

Seth Crawford, who teaches a pot policy class at OSU, said Oregon already produces far more high-quality cannabis than the state consumes, and could meet the state demand on 35 acres of farmland in Southern Oregon.

Crawford said Oregon’s growers could supply the total U.S. cannabis market on just 5,000 acres.

“Throw in another 500 and you’d cover Canada, too,” Crawford said.

KITTREDGE – An Evergreen resident is bringing a new business to the area: hemp farming.

Brady Bell is operating Ambary Gardens out of the old Evergreen Nursery at 26479 Highway 74 in Kittredge, with the help of owner Steve Cohen. The greenhouses there will be used to grow medical-grade hemp plants for cultivation of cannabidiol, or CBD oil, an extract being used to treat a number of chronic illnesses.

The business will not be a retail operation open to the public, but Bell said they plan to do plenty of outreach to educate the community about what they are doing and why.

“We’re trying to raise awareness and bridge the gap, sharing the differences between (marijuana) and hemp,” Bell said.
