Americans have quietly relaxed their attitudes toward pot as more people have gained access for legal, recreational use. Weed is a cash crop in Colorado and Washington, just like corn or hay. In the places where it hasn’t been legalized or decriminalized—perhaps your fair state is next!—Americans appear far more concerned about crucial issues like education and inequality than someone sparking a joint in their backyard.

As marijuana prohibition slowly but surely becomes a thing of the past, the tensions between the radical activists that started the cannabis-freedom movement and the venture capitalists that are looking to cash in on America’s No. 1 growth industry are starting to get bigger.

We’ve all seen the breaking news stories about the massive data breaches involving big-box retailers such as Target and Michaels. These incidents left consumers in fear, but the companies were able to absorb the losses.

A bill in Nevada aimed at adjusting the state’s medical marijuana program has died a quite death in the legislature. The bill had been held up in committee and the time limit expired before the Committee on Health and Human Services could give it a hearing.

If passed, the bill would have made it possible to transfer marijuana business licenses, make the licensing process more transparent, and make it easier for marijuana businesses to change locations. Although reasonable in scope, the bill never gained traction in the legislature, leaving outside observers to ask why.

TRENTON — The United Food and Commercial Workers Union has withdrawn its petition to unionize the employees at the medical marijuana dispensary in Egg Harbor Township, ending what would have been legal battle with national implications for the burgeoning cannabis industry.

An official at the National Labor Relations Board in Philadelphia confirmed the hearing scheduled to take place in Philadelphia Wednesday was cancelled because the organizing petition was withdrawn by the union Local 152 Tuesday.

David Knowlton, a co-founder and board chairman of Compassionate Care Foundation alternative treatment center, said he was notified by the board of the cancelled proceeding but did not receive an explanation on why it had occurred.

Yesterday, 13 Democrats and 9 Republicans on the House Oversight Committee voted to issue a statement of "no confidence" in the ability of Michele Leonhart, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, to carry out the duties of her job. The statement followed a day of withering criticism from lawmakers during Leonhart's testimony about a scandal involving DEA agents who attended lavish drug cartel-funded "sex parties"in Colombia.
