Massive Energy Bills Driving Greener Weed Business

Beneath a purple glow, in a warehouse sharing the street with two indistinguishable strip malls, Kevin Biernacki is growing around 100 pounds of medical marijuana. The purpose of this facility, owned by The Grove, is no different than that of 39 other cultivation sites approved in Clark County. Yet, the roughly 480 industrial lamps suspended over clusters of cannabis set this place apart.

Those energy-efficient lights allowed The Grove to slash its power bill. The decision to use LED lamps might seem unsexy at first, simply a marginal deduction on a complicated balance sheet. But it’s not. It is the type of business decision many experts believe can offer huge benefits in a growing market.

“In the long run, I think it will be an advantage,” Biernacki said.

Nevada Attorney General, law enforcement announce opposition to legalizing recreational marijuana

Attorney General Adam Laxalt is urging Nevadans to "vote no" on Ballot Question 2, which proposes the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Laxalt and other law enforcement officials held a press conference Thursday afternoon in Carson City to detail their concerns over Question 2.

First, Laxalt and other officials, say the measure wasn't written with the people of Nevada in mind.

"This ballot initiative was written by major marijuana interests, who's biggest concern is making money," said Laxalt.

Another big concern was public safety. They said the legalization of recreational marijuana could increase crime and make Nevada roadways less safe.

Why Marijuana Legalization Campaigns Could Fail in 2016

This was supposed to be the year of Pot-Palooza, when five states are set to hold ballot initiatives that would make marijuana legal for recreational users. If all passed, it would bring the number of states offering pot for sale to nine, following similar measures that passed in Colorado and Washington in 2012 and in Alaska and Oregon in 2014.

Pro-Pot Billboards Ask Nevada to Fund ‘Schools Not Cartels’

Recreational marijuana supporters will be taking over billboards around the Las Vegas area before Nevada voters head to the polls in November.

The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol is formally unveiling a billboard Thursday with the message “Support Schools, Not Cartels.” Campaign officials say marijuana prohibition has driven money to criminals, but a ballot measure to legalize the substance could generate $20 million a year for Nevada schools.

The billboard is the latest advertising move in support of Question 2.

Supporters of the ballot measure have reserved more than $800,000 in TV airtime at Las Vegas stations and plan to run commercials starting in early October and running through Election Day.

Roy Exum: Marijuana Is On Fire

I have a bet, for just a Coca-Cola of course, that marijuana will be completely legal in the United States within 10 years. And the reason I am so keenly interested is because it is believed the climate and the soil of Tennessee are just perfect for raising a magnificent crop of ‘Ganja.’ Want me to go a step further: I want to grow it. Really, but I swear I don’t smoke it. Seriously it’s a great cash crop.

Growing (non-psychotic) hemp just became legal in Tennessee, which many believe is a step towards a different “weed.” Hemp is a cousin of “giggle weed,” don’t you see, and is used in so many things today it will boggle your mind.

$800000 in Nevada Ads Planned for Legalized Recreational Marijuana Measure

Don’t be surprised to see a slew of television ads touting a measure to legalize recreational marijuana use during the weeks leading up to the general election in November.

A local political action committee, the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, reserved more than $800,000 worth of advertising time slots across the major news stations in Las Vegas, according to recent Federal Communications Commission filings.

The ads are scheduled to start in early October and run until Election Day on Nov. 8 when Nevadans will vote on Question 2, which will decide whether to legalize the recreational use of marijuana for adults in the state.

The content of the ads hasn’t been finalized, according to coalition spokesman Joe Brezny.

How Pot Shops Are Becoming More Like the Apple Store

When legal pot shops first opened up in America, there wasn’t a ton of thought given to retail design and aesthetics. Understandably so: Compared to the old pot-buying experience—stealthily purchasing a dime bag on the street corner or in the basement of your friendly neighborhood drug dealer—any store could look fancy and inviting.
