Cannabis Oil Is Now Legal For Medical Pot Patients In Canada, And Here Are The First Products

Canada’s marijuana legalization advocates are eagerly awaiting all-out victory under the Trudeau government, but for now, they will have to make do with baby steps.

Here’s one such step. For the first time, it’s now possible for medical marijuana patients to buy a weed product legally in Canada that isn’t for smoking.

Ontario-based medical marijuana manufacturer Peace Naturals has announced it has received permission from Health Canada to sell cannabis oil.

Canada: Vernon pot shops to sell marijuana off and on after RCMP raid threat

'Patients are at risk of falling between the cracks once again,' says marijuana dispensary owner

Five pot shops in Vernon have agreed to sell marijuana on a rotating basis, after RCMP said last week they may raid stores if the owners don't close up shop.

8 Tips for Approaching Your Employer about Medical Marijuana Use

Note: The laws referred to in this post reflect current Canadian law. While there are many similarities, American readers should refer to their own state's policies and procedures.

There are a number of reasons why you might approach your employer about your medical marijuana use.

The first, and most obvious, is that you hold a safety-sensitive position at work and are acting on your duty to report a potential hazard. If you are impaired by medical marijuana, meaning there is a chance it impacts your ability to do work safely, then you need to come forward to your employer. This is your responsibility under occupational health and safety legislation.

Going to pot? Canada leads way in legalizing marijuana

Ottawa (AFP) - Justin Trudeau raised eyebrows when he admitted to having dabbled in marijuana while a member of parliament, but his pledge as prime minister to legalize pot has been broadly cheered.

He said in a policy speech on Friday that his Liberal government would introduce legislation as early as 2016 to legalize marijuana, making Canada the first in the G7 bloc of industrialized nations to do so, although precise details remain sketchy.

Two in three Canadians support decriminalizing possession and use of the mind-altering weed, according to a recent Ipsos poll.

Support is widespread and at its highest level in three decades, it said, even though cannabis use has fallen off.

Canada grants commercial producer first licence to sell cannabis oils

Ottawa has given a commercial medical marijuana producer the first licence to sell cannabis oils through the federally regulated mail-order system, six months after a Supreme Court ruling forced Health Canada to allow access to edible forms of the drug.

Peace Naturals Project Inc., based in Stayner, Ont., announced Monday that it is the first commercial producer to be approved to sell cannabis oil. Fourteen other commercial producers are listed on Health Canada’s website as being permitted to produce cannabis oil, but they are still awaiting bureaucratic approval to sell it. Currently, 20 producers are licensed to sell dried marijuana.

Canada: Local liquor outlets look to the future of legal marijuana

Jack Hynes, owner of On The Rocks in Fort St. John, believes his store would benefit if the sale and distribution of legal weed was handled through the existing liquor distribution and retail system.   Photo By William Stodalka

If new marijuana legislation goes the way some local liquor storeowners are hoping, you could soon pick up some bud with your Bud.

Many local liquor storeowners say they would support a plan that would allow them to sell marijuana in their stores, should the federal government move forward with legalizing the drug, as it signaled in its recent throne speech.
