Buy or Sell? Four Cannabis Stocks to Watch

Cannabis stocks continue to rally and with the presidential election right around the corner, we do not expect this trend to end anytime soon.

That being said, we do not recommend diving head first into the industry as the market is nothing like it was in early 2014 when you could just throw a dart at a dartboard and most likely profit off of any cannabis stock it landed on.

2014 Was Just the Beginning

Licence to Sell Medical Marijuana Coming Soon to PEI Plant

Edwin Jewell, president of Canada's Island Garden Inc. in Charlottetown has a grow underway to be shipped to regulators

P.E.I.’s first medical marijuana growing facility is ready to start harvesting a much sought-after product.

Edwin Jewell, president of Canada’s Island Garden Inc., is “extremely confident’’ the first batch of pot at the 2,160-square-metre facility located in the BioCommons Research Park in Charlottetown will make the federal grade.

“I guess it’s reassuring to know that the harvest is going to be a good crop,’’ says Jewell.

“It’s not the best we’ll ever grow, but it’s a good one for the first time.’’

The secure facility has about 300 plants ready for harvesting, a process that will include a couple weeks of drying the leaves.

Marijuana Missionaries: First Cannabis Church Rolls Into Michigan

There’s no religious dogma in this church, but these marijuana missionaries are intent in on bringing ostracized stoners back into the fold.

Congregants in this church aren’t high on Jesus. In fact, the very name of the church sounds like lyrics from a rock and (ahem) roll song or the backdrop for a classic Cheech and Chong movie.

It’s true that First Cannabis Church of Logic and Reason’s sacrament might be a doobie or marijuana-infused brownie instead of the body and blood of Christ, and its dogma is steeped in giving thanks to the cannabis plant for its healing nature and the sense of well-being it gives users instead of Jesus’ sacrifices for sinners.

Potential Marijuana Tax Revenue in Every State

Four states and the District of Columbia have voted since 2012 to legalize the retail sale of marijuana. One main incentive of legalization is the tax revenue states receive from marijuana sales. The first two states to legalize marijuana — Colorado and Washington — began sales in 2014. After a slow start, tax revenues now exceed expectations in both states.

While the legal structure supporting marijuana sales would be quite different in each U.S. region, other states can begin to better understand the financial impact legalization would have on their states. The Tax Foundation used sales per capita in these two states and the assumption of a 25% effective tax rate to determine the potential tax revenue from marijuana sales in each state.

Australia: Father of dying girl pleads for Queensland Government to allow her cannabis oil in hospital

The father of a dying Brisbane child wants special permission from the Queensland Government to use cannabis oil in hospital.

Steve Peek said doctors had tried every legal medication on his eight-year-old daughter Suli, who has a regressive neurological disorder that causes multiple chronic seizures, but that nothing had worked.

He resorted to cannabis oil 16 months ago to give Suli a better quality of life, and said it had helped control her seizures.

But following a recent virus, Suli now needs palliative care.

Mr Peek has pleaded with the Government to provide him with compassionate access to use the drug in hospital.

"What we need is some sort of approval so if she goes to hospital we can continue using the cannabis oil," he said.

Marijuana Could Be the Answer to Curing Alzheimer's Disease, Study Shows

The statistics associated with Alzheimer's disease are downright depressing.

The disease, which typically affects the elderly and is characterized by a progressive decline in cognitive function, currently afflicts 5.4 million Americans, and the Alzheimer's Association expects the direct and indirect costs of treatment to reach $236 billion in 2016. Some one in nine people over the age of 65 has Alzheimer's disease, and within the U.S., it's the sixth-leading cause of death.

These statistics are even scarier when you consider how much researchers still have to learn about this disease. Though there are medications designed to slow the progression of the various stages of the disease, a cure for Alzheimer's disease remains elusive for the time being.

Massachusetts State Health Agency Offers Overhaul Of Medical Marijuana Regulations

Nurse practitioners would be allowed to certify patients for medical marijuana and dispensaries would be allowed to post product prices on their websites, under new regulations proposed by the Department of Public Health.

The changes, according to state health officials, build off of lessons learned during the first three years of experience with medical marijuana in Massachusetts.

The current set of regulations, implemented after a 2012 ballot initiative authorized the medicinal use of marijuana in the state, require potential patients to register with the state after a physician certifies they qualify for the program.

As of Aug. 31, there were 167 physicians registered with the medical marijuana program and 29,999 active patients, according to the DPH.
