Could the UK Finally See Medical Cannabis Legalised?

Hopeful news, if you're one of the estimated 1 million medicinal cannabis users in the UK: a group of MPs and peers is campaigning for medicinal weed to be made legal in the UK, allowing people who suffer from chronic pain and symptoms such as anxiety to grow a small amount of weed and have access to doctor-prescribed bud without the risk of being charged for possession.

If the campaign is successful, it would put the UK among 11 European countries and 24 US states where cannabis has been decriminalised for prescribed consumption.

In Break With Past Policy, Dutch Mayor Allows Cannabis Patients to Grow at Home

The mayor of Tilburg, the sixth-largest city in the Netherlands, has indicated that authorities will allow residents who rely on medicinal cannabis to grow up to five plants for personal use without fear of prosecution. The move is a clean break with existing policy, under which medical growers face evictions and seizure of their plants.

Mayor Peter Noordanus announced the news in a letter to local patient organization PGMCG (Patients Group Medicinal Cannabis Users). Marian Hutten, chairwoman of the group, called the official permission an “excellent, cool step of the mayor.”

How a (Legal) Cannabis Extract Could Help Anxiety

Anxiety affects a lot of us. Recent studies put the stats at 1 in 10 likely to acquire the mental health condition at some stage in our lives. Many suffer in silence and some turn to prescription medications, which can be extremely helpful for some people, but not everyone gets on with them. There's call for alternative options for those struggling. But what many people don't realise is that a compound from marijuana could help some people manage their condition without powerful medication.

Pharma Company Funding Anti-Pot Fight Worried About Losing Business, Filings Show

PHARMACEUTICAL EXECUTIVES WHO recently made a major donation to an anti-marijuana legalization campaign claimed they were doing so out of concern for the safety of children — but their investor filings reveal that pot poses a direct threat to their plans to cash in on a synthetic cannabis product they have developed.

On August 31, Insys Therapeutics Inc. donated $500,000 to Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy, becoming the single largest donor to the group leading the charge to defeat a ballot measure in Arizona to legalize marijuana.

California Hospital Wants to be the First to Allow Medical Marijuana Use

Israel’s hospitals, according to health care industry insiders, have pioneered the use of cannabis administration in hospital settings.

“I want to have Marin General be the first hospital in California to openly and transparently allow patients to use medical cannabis,” said Dr. Larry Bedard, who practiced emergency medicine as a former physician at Marin General.

Bedard isn’t some lone-nut calling for bake sessions in sterile hospitals. He wrote the rebuttal to the argument against Proposition 64, appearing on Nov. 8 ballot to legalize recreational marijuana in California for adults ages 21 and older.

Australian Grandparents Donate Millions to Medicinal Cannabis Research

When Barry and Joy Lambert donated nearly $34 million to the University of Sydney for medicinal cannabis research last year, they were hailed as Australia’s most generous grandparents.

But there is a very real pain behind their generosity.

Their four-year-old granddaughter, Katelyn, suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a potentially fatal childhood epilepsy condition.

Since she was six months old, Katelyn has suffered from agonising, debilitating seizures. One occurred in a hospital emergency room and lasted more than two hours, with doctors powerless to stop it.
