Aurora Cannabis to research CBD with mixed martial arts outfit UFC, Canopy names new CFO

Aurora Cannabis Inc. shares rose Tuesday, after the Canadian company said it has entered a multiyear, multimillion-dollar agreement with mixed martial arts organization UFC to research the effect of hemp-derived CBD products on athlete recovery and wellness.

The companies have agreed to conduct the research at UFC’s Las Vegas institute, setting up clinical studies to evaluate CBD, a nonintoxicating ingredient in cannabis and hemp, as a treatment for pain management, inflammation, injury/exercise recovery and mental well being. Aurora sharesACB, +2.00% ACB, -0.77%  rose 3%.

Keep cannabis away from kids, Montreal hospital urges after increase in intoxication cases

The Montreal Children's Hospital is reminding parents to keep their edibles locked up and away from kids following an increase in the number of cannabis intoxication cases.

Between 1990 and 2016, it was relatively rare for doctors at the hospital to treat children under the age of seven who had ingested cannabis — one case, on average, every three years.

But since 2016, when talk of the legalization of marijuana ramped up, nine children under the age of seven have been treated after consuming the drug.

Trulieve acquiring The Corner Medical dispensary

Primarily known for operating dispensaries in Florida, Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (CSE: TRUL) today announced plans to expand into Connecticut by acquiring an existing storefront. 

Trulieve just entered an agreement to snap up 100% of Bristol-based medical cannabis dispensary The Healing Corner, which has operated in the city since 2014.  

Medical marijuana usage was officially legalized in Connecticut back in 2012. While various bills have been proposed to legalize recreational usage in both 2018 and early 2019, none of them have yet gathered enough support to be passed and hit the governor’s desk.

Cronos inks cannabis concentrate supply agreement with MediPharm Labs

Cronos Group Inc (TSE:CRON) (NASDAQ:CRON) shares popped Tuesday after the company announced an agreement with cannabis supplier MediPharm Labs Corp (TSE:LABS) (OTCMKTS:MEDIF).

MediPharm will supply Peace Naturals, a wholly owned Cronos subsidiary, with $30 million worth of cannabis concentrate over 18 months with options to increase to as much as $60 million over 24 months.
