Real reasons CBD products are projected to outpace marijuana

Today, many marketers and retailers, seem to think that their brand(s) can become supercharged just by adding two words to their brand(s) name. More awareness. More sales. Significantly increased revenues! All they have to do is to add the following: "CBD infused (insert the brand name here)". Beer, alcohol, candy, foods, lotions… pet food! Recent market reports, however, back up this phenomenon. Is cannabis safe for dogs? Pet marijuana poisoning is rising exponentially as more edibles are available

If you have a furry friend at home, you probably know that just about anything left on the floor, the coffee table, or in the garbage can pique your pet’s interest as a potential treat.

But what happens when they start wobbling around, showing clear signs of disorientation? Or, you look into Fido’s eyes and realize they look glassy, rather than playful? That’s what happened to Jen Gunter, a resident of Marin County, Calif. Her energetic three-year-old Labrador retriever, Hazel, wasn’t acting like herself.

Triple green threat: Why cannabinoids are synbio’s next big market

The first year I could vote, in the early 2000’s, medical marijuana was on the Michigan ballot. I voted yes, even though I didn’t know nearly as much as I do now as a PhD-trained research scientist. I was aware even then that marijuana could have many more uses than just giving someone a good time. While many conservatives laughed at the word “medical” tacked to the front of it, viewing it as a ploy to legalize bad behavior, this conservative placed her bets on the future of medical marijuana in the clinic.

Skyrocketing medical cannabis patient numbers outpacing physician support, supply: doctor

The rapidly swelling number of medical cannabis patients is outstripping Canadian health care’s ability to handle them, a Calgary physician who prescribes the substance said Friday.

The legalization of recreational pot has lessened the drug’s stigma, sparking a huge boom in the number of Canadians registering as medical marijuana patients with the federal government, said Dr. Sana-Ara Ahmed, an anesthesiologist and chronic pain specialist.

A year ago, there were 250,000 people registered and by last December there were 350,000, she said.

“I think the number now is more like 400,000 — it’s a startling increase,” she said.

Less packaging, more recycling, means greener weed for New Brunswick

When cannabis was first legalized in Canada, customers immediately criticized the excessive plastic packaging that came with it.

Some products generated as much as 70 grams of plastic and cardboard for one gram of marijuana.

But that is starting to change.

Some products, offered in pill containers, have shed the outer cardboard boxes and shrink-wrapped plastic seal.

Others, such as a gram of cannabis from Ontario producer Aphria, come in sealed brown envelopes.

"We are certainly mindful of the concerns raised around the amount of packaging used industry-wide, which was largely the result of ensuring compliance with the regulations under the Cannabis Act," said Andrew Swartz, a spokesperson for Aphria.

Sask. school board questions trustee over use of medical cannabis during board meetings

A former trustee who used prescription medications, including cannabis, during school board meetings has made a complaint about the division asking for his personal health information after his disclosure.

The division, which has its main office based in Warman, Sask., put a medical marijuana policy into effect last November for its employees.
