Mark Hauk, the owner of an unlicensed medical marijuana dispensary in Saskatoon, says he'll reopen his dispensary today, after spending Thursday night in jail and Friday morning in front of a judge to face drug trafficking charges related to his business.

"I don't have a condition that I can't be at the store," Hauk said at a protest staged in front of the Saskatoon police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.

He was released on $1,000 bail on Friday morning after appearing before a judge at Provincial Court.

"To be there and do advocacy work, it's not a breach of conditions, it's not against the law. And it's work that needs to be done," he said, noting he'll be providing "advice to patients in any way that they need it."

The television commercials, direct-mail ads, endorsements and debates are over: It’s time to decide whether marijuana will be legal in Ohio.

Eyes across the country will be on the Buckeye State on Tuesday to see what voters decide on State Issue 3, the for-profit constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana in smokable and edible form for recreational use for those 18 or older, and for patients of any age with qualifying medical conditions.

The warring campaigns — ResponsibleOhio and Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies — are as different as you can imagine.

ResponsibleOhio is backed almost exclusively by 10 groups of wealthy investors who were expected to spend upward of $25 million on the legalization campaign.

In a motion that could throw federal enforcement of marijuana laws in Colorado into commotion, a lawyer at the center of one of the biggest criminal pot cases in the state’s legal-marijuana era is asking a judge to toss out the case against him.

In the new motion, lawyer David Furtado argues that the federal crimes he is charged with — money laundering and trying to deposit proceeds from an illegal enterprise into a bank — all stem from activity that is legal under state law in Colorado. Because Congress last year passed a law prohibiting the U.S. Department of Justice from spending money to interfere with state medical marijuana laws, Furtado argues that the indictment against him should be dismissed.

Business is booming in Manitou Springs, and its sales tax collections are at record levels.

The city brought in $2.71 million through August, more than the total for all of last year. A noteworthy figure, considering the sales tax revenue collected in 2014 was the city's largest total in at least a decade, according to data provided by its finance department.

And while a string of summer months devoid of major fires and floods and an improving economy have helped contribute to Manitou's success, recreational marijuana sales cannot be ignored.

"We were well on our way to financial health and recovery of our community," Mayor Marc Snyder said. "And the new taxes from recreational marijuana were just a real boost."

Meanwhile legalized marijuana usage in Colorado has produced unexpected consequences.

I have said many times that the marijuana community can do big things outside of the marijuana world. The marijuana community over the years has built a machine that can spread awareness like no other, pool together resources like no other, and mobilize volunteers like no other. These things have benefited cannabis reform greatly, and they can be used to benefit other worthy causes. Any non-profit organization should be grateful to get the level of assistance that the marijuana community can provide.

Washington, D.C., realtors are constantly looking for new perks to help sell houses in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country. Their latest endeavor: marijuana grow closets.

When the District legalized the possession of marijuana in February a new market of would-be growers formed, and now realtors hope to cash in on that market, NBC Washington reports.

Developers across the city are planning to add grow closets to future developments and companies that specialize in selling the equipment needed to grow marijuana indoors.

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska is considering getting into the lucrative marijuana business, but at least one tribal expert fears doing so could put the tribe at risk of losing any investment it may make in marijuana industries.

The tribe plans to hold a referendum Tuesday in which members will vote on whether the tribe should allow recreational use of marijuana, medicinal use of marijuana, and growing industrial hemp on its northeast Nebraska reservation.

Ultimately, however, the Omaha tribal council will decide all three questions. The referendum vote simply will give the council guidance on whether to move forward, according to an information sheet distributed by the tribe.

When Vermont senator Bernie Sanders called for an end to federal marijuana prohibition this week before an audience of college students, he went further than any major national presidential candidate before him.

“It’s the first time a presidential candidate has made such a forthright statement on legalization,” said Michael Collins, deputy director at Drug Policy Action. “[It’s a] a fairly big nail in the coffin of prohibition.”

Colorado: the mountains, the Wild Wild West and when it comes to growing marijuana, Colorado is at least to a degree the Wild West because there, if you pass a licensing test you can have a grow facility.

That is unlike the Ohio model where there would only be 10 grow farms. But it does far more than that; it would allow recreational use of the addictive version of the drug, as well.
