Harborside Health Centers break ground on new advertising campaign for outdoor cannabis

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Outdoor cannabis is getting a boost with Harborside’s innovative marketing campaign promoting “SunGrown” products. Harvest season in Northern California is a remarkable time of year. The leaves are a rainbow of autumn colors, the air is cool and crisp, summer comes to San Francisco and the psychedelic excess of festival season gives way to a mellow reconnecting with the bounty of the land. It also marks the beginning of trim season and the annual emergence of a unique cannabis subculture, a sort of underground aspect, of the pot world.

WINCHESTER, Ky. - Tucked away off a narrow country road in Clark County, in the middle of a farm, 27 acres of hemp grew all summer. Now, the plants will be harvested and processed.

Kentucky, hailed as a leader by industrial hemp advocates, has grown the hemp. Now the state is working on growing the industry.

"In two years, we've come a long way," said Agriculture Commissioner James Comer, who is now running for Congress. "We've proven first of all that it's not a drug, which was very important for the opposition to realize. And we've proven it's economically viable, or there wouldn't be 22 companies that have made an investment in the state. ... What we're doing now is working with the companies that want to go to the next step to commercialize the product. "

Let's face it, 2016 is going to be a monumental year when it comes to the election process. In 2016 we'll be electing a new president, potentially changing the make-up of Congress, and more than a half-dozen states may be deciding on the medicinal or recreational approval of marijuana.

Voters are about to weigh in on marijuana
Marijuana has been a hot-button issue for consumers this decade, with three national polls (Gallup, General Social Survey, and Pew Research) all showing that a slim majority of respondents have a favorable opinion of the currently federally-illicit drug. Focusing solely on medicinal marijuana, the perception of favorability shoots even higher.

Justin Henderson was a little gun-shy at first. But it was 2008, and the Great Recession had stalled the real estate industry, leaving the Denver-based developer sitting on properties that weren't cash-flowing. When a couple of friends and colleagues started leasing their warehouses to pot growers, Henderson weighed his own options. "It's a tricky thing to tell everybody in your conservative financial life that you're part of the marijuana industry," he said.

Henderson now heads a company he believes is poised to become a mover in the cannabis industry beyond Colorado's borders.

At the after-party for the National Cannabis Summit — an annual conference thick with entrepreneurs and business people, held in the bowels of the Sheraton in downtown Denver — eight of us attendees boogied alongside one of the more engaging speakers, the medical researcher Dr. Suzanne Sisley, who wore throughout the party a towering, purple velvet Mad Hatter’s hat. Remembering that in her speech she had said, “I’ve never tried marijuana in any form,” I wanted to whisper in her ear, “But your millinery tells a different story.”

Colorado residents are considering a unique ballot measure on Tuesday, November 3; and the CEO of one of the state’s largest recreational cannabis companies is calling on voters to vote “No” against Proposition BB.

According to Colorado state law, anytime an estimated tax is exceeded that excess amount is targeted for a refund to taxpayers.

This show has invested millions in budding entrepreneurs, and it isn’t “Shark Tank.”

“The Marijuana Show” launched its first 13-episode season online last year, providing a broadcast platform for marijuana companies to pitch their ideas to interested investors. It just wrapped its second season, which ended up with $13 million in total investments from four new investors, who are described as more “dolphin” than shark for their willingness to mentor contestants.

On Wednesday night, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced a proposal to dramatically shift marijuana policy in the United States. At a campaign stop in Virginia, Sen. Sanders announced he would be proposing new legislation in the coming weeks to remove cannabis from the list of Controlled Substances—a move many call “descheduling.” In many ways, this would be the most aggressive change—short of national legalization—that Congress could make, and Sanders is the most prominent official in the United States to support such a move. There is a bit we know about what this proposal could mean, and there is much we don’t quite yet know. Let’s break down each.
