At medical marijuana warehouse, plants rise as launch nears

OTSEGO, Minn. - Kim Kelsey is ready to start getting medical marijuana to treat her son's epilepsy. The state's two manufacturers are almost ready, too.

On Monday, Kim joined the team from Minnesota Medical Solutions to give a guided media tour of the Otsego marijuana grow facility.

The greenhouses there are under such strict security measures that a former U.S. Secret Service agent has been employed with keeping it's facility completely secret and completely manned by cameras and armed guards every minute of every day.

Dr. Kyle Kingsley, the CEO of Minnesota Medical Solutions, says his facility is on schedule to produce the oil based marijuana medicines for the patients authorized to receive them by July 1st, when it is legally official.

BC medical marijuana producers test legal waters in US recreational market

Legal repercussions from operating a Washington state facility unclear

Experts are uncertain whether it’s legal for Vancouver-based medical marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis to build a facility in Washington state that will cultivate recreational pot | Photo: Shutterstock

Nowadays, a checklist for travellers heading south through the Peace Arch border crossing might include deals on eggs, shoes and – while they can’t admit it to U.S. federal border guards – recreational marijuana.

And with a U.S. market that dwarfs that of his native Canada, Terry Booth doesn’t see why companies north of the border can’t capitalize on the legal weed available to consumers in states like Alaska, Washington and Colorado.

4 Critical Things to Look For in a New Graduate Hire

As May approaches and thousands of college and university students enter the workforce, you are faced with an amazing opportunity: hiring a rookie that could turn into an all-star.

In professional sports, high draft picks are endlessly analyzed and coveted because of their relatively cheap salaries and high potential. In the business community, we don’t do nearly as much to determine the upside of a rookie. Most employers actually spend considerably less time interviewing and vetting a new graduate than they do a much more seasoned and proven professional.

Harvesting hemp

Manitoba firm says plant a vital part of 'right-fat' diet

It was 20 years ago when Mike Fata's desire to find a healthier lifestyle planted the seed that led him to co-found what has become the world's largest hemp food manufacturer.

"I was uneducated about health, fell prey to the fast food movement, and found myself weighing 300 pounds when I was 18," Fata recalled Wednesday.

Fata's brother helped him lose weight by getting him into a gym, but his diet still needed work.

"I learned the hard way about fatty acids," said Fata, who tried to cut fats from his diet. "I lost weight, but my health really turned negative from cutting key nutrients out of my diet."

Then Fata discovered the benefits of hemp foods.

Walker’s signing of the bill is no surprise, as he had said he supported the version that lawmakers passed.

The board touts the potential economic impact of legalized marijuana — the group claims regulating and taxing the drug would attract new business and jobs to the state.

The group cited a similar law in Colorado.
