Beyond the grass ceiling – the changing relationship between women and weed

Marijuana has finally gone mainstream in the US. The drug, which is now legal in some form in nearly two-dozen states and the District of Columbia, after nearly a century of prohibition, has even had endorsements from CNN and FOX News – both have been touting its health benefits. And, “as legalisation has begun to pick up steam” as one report put it earlier this month, “women are finally coming out of the cannabis closet”, both as users and as ganjapreneurs.

Deep down, we all just want to be remembered.

In today’s distraction-filled world, it’s easier said than done. The average adult has 360 messages coming at them each day via TV, radio, Internet, newspapers, and magazines, according to a study by Media Dynamics. Less than half are noted and far fewer make enough of an impact to be recalled.

If you’re trying to stand out in the midst of that chaos, you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Here's Where The GOP's 2016 Presidential Contenders Stand On Marijuana Legalization

While the federal government maintains a blanket ban on marijuana, recreational marijuana is already legal in four states and the District of Columbia. In addition, 23 states, as well as D.C., have legalized marijuana for medical purposes.

And with at least 10 more states expected to consider legalization in some form by 2016, the next president of the United States will almost certainly have to reckon with the disparity between state and federal law on marijuana.

Marketing Cannabis as Challenge and Opportunity

In a rapidly evolving cannabis marketplace it is increasingly vital for businesses to stand out from the competition. But many cannabis businesses have a long way to go when it comes to building brand recognition, which is key to long-term success.

“Most businesses are not marketing or advertising effectively,” said Lee Weiner, president of the cannabis marketing company 7 Leaf Marketing, based in Denver. “Many think the product [cannabis] sells itself, or rely on their current customer base. That will have to change.”

Medical marijuana grow facility sets up shop in Paris

Toronto-based Kindcann moves into former chicken plant.

A motorized security gate, barbed wire fence and abundance of security cameras are obvious signs a new business in north Paris is out of the ordinary.

Inside, light in one room from 50 high-pressure sodium fixtures is so bright it hurts the naked eye.

Welcome to a medical marijuana growing facility setting up shop in a former chicken processing plant in the community.

It’s been an understated arrival for Toronto-based Kindcann.

“I like the fact that everything is flying under the radar and that things are quiet,” said CEO and co-founder Maxim Zavet.

Kindcann originally looked to partner with a First Nations community near Fort Frances, Ont., but the plan fell through.
