San Francisco's first pot 'baked sale'

Last weekend, thousands from the Bay Area poured into the outdoor SoMa StrEAT Food Park for the Get Baked Sale, the first food rally for marijuana-edibles enthusiasts.

Cannabis is only legal for medicinal use in California, though momentum is growing among supporters who seek to legalize its recreational use in a 2016 ballot initiative. Attendees at the fair had to present a state-authorized medical marijuana identification card at the door and pay $20 in order to enter.

These 3 Charts Show Why More States Will Soon Legalize Marijuana

Want to know why states are legalizing recreational marijuana?

Let me give you a hint: It has something to do with the color green. Not the color of the plant, but the color of money.

Because recreational marijuana has now been legal in Colorado and Washington for 18 months and 11 months, respectively, we're finally starting to see just how lucrative the recreational-marijuana business is -- for the record, it's also now legal in Alaska, Washington D.C., and, starting in July, Oregon.

In March alone, consumers in Washington purchased $21.9 million worth of recreational cannabis through legal channels. That was more than twice the amount of the $8.3 million spent on medical marijuana that month.

Marijuana cash is problem for Illinois tax collection

CHICAGO (AP) -- The state of Illinois is having trouble finding a bank or financial services company to process the large amounts of cash it anticipates receiving for taxes and fees from the new medical marijuana industry.

The state treasurer's office received no response to an official solicitation published last fall, so Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has started a formal process to find out why.

Cannabusiness Investments: Evolving Risks And Due Diligence

With the legalization for medical use in 21 states, and for adult use in Colorado, Washington, Alaska and the District of Columbia (and Oregon, effective July 1, 2015), the cannabis industry is said to be the fastest growing industry in the United States. A rcview Market Research reported an increase in industry sales of 74 percent to $2.7 billion in 2014, up from $1.5 billion in 2013. As cultivation, distribution, medical and personal use become increasingly legal at the state level, entrepreneurs, their friends and family and other early-stage investors are starting to see pathways to harvest, following the influx of sophisticated investors from traditional private equity sources.

The Best Business Mentor You’ll Ever Have? It’s Your Dad

Some of your fathers wore suits and worked for the Man or were the Man themselves. Others were determined to do their own thing, rising to new heights or struggling like Willy Loman. But no matter what your dad happened to do for a living, chances are you’ll have no greater mentor in business than him.

As Father’s Day approaches, I find myself thinking about my own dad, a brilliant and iconoclastic architect who died much too young of cancer. Even though he was easily able to go into the family business—a hugely successful chain of DIY paint stores—my dad had other, bigger dreams. He wanted to build buildings. And to realize his dreams, he coined and lived by a set of principles I still follow to this day.

Company looks to open medical marijuana dispensary in Evans Mills

WATERTOWN — A Brooklyn-based company is hoping to set up a medical marijuana dispensary in Evans Mills.

Sheva Health and Wellness is one of 43 companies vying for a license to grow and dispense medical marijuana in New York.

The dispensary would be located at 26121 Route 11, Evans Mills, according to spokesman Glen Casey.

Joseph Levine, founding member of the company, said the Watertown area was a good fit due to its location in the state and for its thousands of nearby veterans linked to Fort Drum.

“As NY expands its list of medical conditions to perhaps include PTSD, SHW will be prepared to service this population,” he said, in a statement.
