How the price of pot differs in 50 states and 8 major cities

The Internet makes it easy to compare prices for a lot of things -- you can shop around for the best deal on shoes, or research what salary you should be asking for in a job interview. Now, it's also helping people make sure they're not getting ripped off on the black market.

PriceofWeed.com, a website that asks people to anonymously submit the cost of marijuana they purchase in their area, has collected a lot of data on the street price of both legal and illegal marijuana around the U.S. over the last few years. We took that data and created a map of state prices and a graph of city prices below.

California: Judge Denies Request To Halt The Licensing Of Cannabis Stores

Santa Ana can move ahead with issuing licenses to 20 medical marijuana collectives after Superior Court Judge David R. Chafee denied a request to temporarily bar the city from implementing its pot shop ordinance.

The lawsuit -- which was brought by Rallo Law Firm, P.C. on behalf of dispensaries that didn’t win in the city’s lottery to determine which collectives could obtain an operating permit – contended that the lottery was unfair because it allowed submissions from applicants that should have been disqualified.

Watch: How to Legally Invest in Marijuana Companies

Score one for the stoners: The pot industry is poised to be gigantic as more states embrace legalization. And, if you want to get in on the ground floor, several advocates say now is the right time to bet big on marijuana.

"Overall public opinion of marijuana has changed," said Dan Humiston, president of the International Cannabis Association. "The stance has just softened. With time as the population ages, a lot of the generations that were really opposed to it are being replaced with the generations that are comfortable with it."

If you're not happy with your life, either personally or professionally, take a quick look in the mirror. The problem may not be lack of opportunity, or education, or capital, or connections--the culprit could be you.

Barrie poised to sell property to marijuana producer

Politicians will discuss selling some land tonight to enable a medical marijuana plant to grow in the city.

City economic development staff has negotiated a $600,000 agreement for a 4.8-acre industrial site on Rawson Avenue.

Skytek Pharmaceuticals is proposing to invest $7 million in Barrie, partially to build a 65,000-square-foot building, which would house a production and research facility at 36 to 48 Rawson Ave.

The site is in the South Barrie Industrial Park, south of Mapleview Drive and east of Hwy. 400.

“It’s in an area we thought it would be. It’s industrial,” said Coun. John Brassard, who chairs the city’s infrastructure, investment and development services committee.

This Survey Says That Marijuana Prices Are Crashing in Colorado

It's been a little over a year since Colorado began allowing stores to sell marijuana for recreational use and the market continues to grow rapidly. But there are clouds (ahem) on the horizon.

Nicholas Colas and his team at Convergex, a global brokerage company based in New York, surveyed a number of marijuana stores in Colorado last week to get a better picture of the state of the nascent market.

What they found was that prices are declining faster than some had expected, while the number of people visiting the stores has increased.

Here's more from the note:

‘Wanna Grab a Marijuana Tea After Work?’

As pot laws liberalize, cannabis capitalists eye opportunities for business—and to upend stereotypes. But can white-collar workers handle it, man?

Jill Amen always wanted to be a barista. She has also always loved cannabis, growing little saplings at home ever since she was a teen. On a visit to Amsterdam a few years ago, she noticed that the “coffeeshops” there are really just pubs for pot smoking.

“And I thought, wouldn’t it be great if there was a coffee shop for coffee?!”

She means marijuana-infused coffee, natch.

Her product, Jane’s Brew, officially launched in January at Hempcon, a cannabis showcase, where it won two first-place awards. It’s now in 100 dispensaries in California, and it moved into Nevada last month.
