AFTER MORE THAN four years and two giant law enforcement busts, the Dark Web’s drug market is still just as robust as it was during the Silk Road’s heyday. In fact, according to a new study, it’s now moving well over $100 million of illegal substances a year, and it’s recovering from every new scam-induced setback and government crackdown faster than the last one.

The government’s war against online drug sales isn’t working, according to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University.

Despite law enforcement crackdowns, online drug black markets have matured into a resilient criminal industry that enables more than $100 million worth of worldwide sales a year, a new paper from researcher Kyle Soska and computer science professor Nicolas Christin reports.

LAS VEGAS -- DigiPath Labs, the cannabis testing subsidiary of DigiPath, Inc. The Russian government’s technology and internet watchdog is threatening to block Reddit across the country if it does not remove a thread dedicated to growing cannabis.

AXIM Biotechnologies, Inc., a biotechnology company focused on global research, development and production of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and cosmetic products derived from industrial hemp, has announced commencement of clinical development of its leading patented pharmaceutical chewing gum, MedChew RX, for registration as a drug for relieving pain and/or spasticity in patients suffering from with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Professional gamers competing in events run by eSports body ESL are now banned from using marijuana during competitions, under the organisation’s new anti-doping policy.

ESL announced plans in July to introduce the policy, promising that it would be “fair, feasible and conclusive while also respecting the privacy of players”. Now it has published details of its plans.

Lighting company Illumitex Inc. is illuminating not buildings and streets, but plants like marijuana.  The growth in its market has helped the company secure a new round of funding, as Dow Jones VentureWire reported.

The Austin, Texas-based company’s light emitting diode lamps can be customized to produce wavelengths and intensity specific to facilitating the growth of a particular plant. Illumitex’s lamps are mostly used to grow greenhouse tomatoes and leafy greens indoors, but medical marijuana is a newer and advancing market, said Chief Executive Chris Hammelef. The company is also exploring the use of its lights in human skin-care, such as for acne and in anti-aging.
