As it grows, marijuana business becomes more tech savvy

When he first began buying medical marijuana to treat his multiple sclerosis, Mark Manasse was forced to visit a dispensary every time he needed to get fresh buds.

But thanks to a host of new apps like Quil, he can order the marijuana from his home in California and wait for the delivery to arrive in less than an hour - much like you would a pizza.

"I like that they show me the expected delivery time so I can figure out, OK, I had better finish cooking dinner then, so I can be ready for when the delivery arrives," Manasse told CNET.com's Lexy Savvides.

Russian government regulator threatens to block Reddit over cannabis thread

Internet watchdog Roskomnadzor emailed Reddit to request removal of subreddit thought to be /r/trees, complaining staff are ‘too relaxed during August’

Marijuana ban for pro gamers during contests under new drugs policy

Professional gamers competing in events run by eSports body ESL are now banned from using marijuana during competitions, under the organisation’s new anti-doping policy.

ESL announced plans in July to introduce the policy, promising that it would be “fair, feasible and conclusive while also respecting the privacy of players”. Now it has published details of its plans.

Investors Pack $16M Into Illumitex for LEDs as Medical Marijuana Gains

Lighting company Illumitex Inc. is illuminating not buildings and streets, but plants like marijuana.  The growth in its market has helped the company secure a new round of funding, as Dow Jones VentureWire reported.

The Austin, Texas-based company’s light emitting diode lamps can be customized to produce wavelengths and intensity specific to facilitating the growth of a particular plant. Illumitex’s lamps are mostly used to grow greenhouse tomatoes and leafy greens indoors, but medical marijuana is a newer and advancing market, said Chief Executive Chris Hammelef. The company is also exploring the use of its lights in human skin-care, such as for acne and in anti-aging.
