'Get Baked' sale features samples of marijuana munchies

More than 25 local cannabis businesses hosted a bake sale Saturday, complete with “medical” marijuana-laced munchies.

The first Get Baked Sale, held at the SOMAStreat Food Park on 11th Street, included food trucks and booths lined with all sorts of wares — including Doritos, Chilean empanadas, ice cream sandwiches, pancakes and macaroons — for holders of medical marijuana cards to sample. The event featured cooking demonstrations and food-pairings with marijuana edibles. The pointy green leaves symbolic of the plant were rife on clothing, posters and stickers.

A Military Veteran Explains Why Veterans Deserve Access To Medical Marijuana

I have posted many articles about why veterans need (and deserve!) safe access to medical marijuana. However, I am not a veteran, and I’ve always felt that this blog needed a veteran’s perspective. Below is a guest article that was sent to me by a reader who is a veteran, and obviously feels very strongly about the issue. No one should be forced to use harmful pharmaceuticals or go without medicine, especially our military veterans who have served our country proudly. Below is the guest post:

WSU working on roadside breath test for marijuana

Washington State University researchers are working to develop a roadside test that would detect marijuana in a person’s breath.

Studies began last month on a prototype that tests breath for THC, the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects.

Public interest in the research is high, though “we have a long way to go before we have a dependable test for THC,” said Herbert Hill, a WSU chemistry professor, who spoke at a medicinal plants conference last week in Spokane.

Law enforcement officials want a quick, reliable method to test for THC in drivers who fail voluntary …

CEDAR FALLS, Ia. – The Legislature’s failure to expand Iowa’s medical marijuana law has some parents of sick children looking to Minnesota.

Northeast Iowa lawmakers who worked to pass the proposed legislation suggested some Iowans may relocate to nearby states to access medicinal marijuana. Medical marijuana will be legal in limited form in Minnesota beginning July 1.

Which Wine Should You Pair With Your Weed?

More and more states are choosing to legalize marijuana. And as pot goes mainstream, it's acquiring a new level of sophistication. A somewhat surprising byproduct of this phenomenon is the rise of wine (or beer) and weed pairings, Dan Nosowitz writes for Modern Farmer.

Florida: Legal low-potency marijuana industry will be an experiment

Florida officially opens up to the legal marijuana cultivation industry this week, but it will be for the low-potency drug and it won’t be cheap for anyone wanting to get into the business.

Following an administrative law judge’s ruling June 1 that dismissed a challenge to Florida’s “Charlotte’s Web” law, the path has been cleared to allow limited low-THC marijuana growing operations in Florida. The original state law was drafted by state Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, and signed by Gov. Rick Scott about a year ago.

For Bradley, the elimination of the legal challenges is a relief. He says he simply wanted the low-potency pot to help people, mainly children, suffering from epilepsy and cancer and the side effects of treatment.

MN families, providers prep for medical marijuana

MANKATO — MaryAnn Nelson said she has tried almost every seizure medication for her 13-year-old daughter, Rachael, who has Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder.

But many have caused serious side effects, such as extended sleepiness and trouble breathing.

Nelson, of Mankato, has pinned her hopes on medical marijuana, which will become legal in Minnesota on July 1. She said she hopes to enroll Rachael in a clinic trial through her provider, during which she will receive medical marijuana in a closely monitored setting.

"We're out of tools in the tool box," Nelson said. " ... This is kind of a no-brainer for me."

Does American Legalization Challenge Mexican Cartels?

One of the ongoing rationalizations for the legalization of the drug trade in the United States has been to stop the associated crime that comes with prohibition. The drug trade across the Mexican border is one of the bloodiest on a regular basis.

What is the impact so far of American legalization of the drug highway across the Tex-Mex border?
