Regina schools ask City to not change cannabis shop distance bylaw

Representatives from Farmer Jane Cannabis Co. and Wiid Boutique spoke at Wednesday's meeting, both in favour of keeping the 182.88 metre distance between schools and cannabis shops.

A Regina zoning bylaw that requires cannabis stores to operate at least nearly 183 metres away from a school is anticipated to remain in place after a planning commission meeting on Wednesday.

At an Oct. 6 planning meeting, proposed amendments were considered including reducing the distance to only 60 metres.

The motion to keep the distance as is passed 8-to-1 during Wednesday’s meeting.

Saskatoon police seize $15k in drug bust

Four men are facing charges following an investigation into cocaine trafficking by Saskatoon police.

The four men, ages 22, 24, 26 and 28, were arrested in two traffic stops where police say they located four cell phones, 4.7 grams of cocaine and $2,000 in cash.

A fifth man, 32, was arrested in the 100 block of Wakaw Crescent. According to a police news release, investigators found $13,000 in cash, 1,791.30 grams of cocaine, 7.3 grams of psilocybin, four pounds of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The men are from Saskatoon, Edmonton and Winnipeg, police say.

An investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.

Sask. cannabis retail group says stores should be exempt from COVID-19 vaccination rules

A group representing independent cannabis stores in Saskatchewan says pot retailers should be exempt from proof of vaccination requirements.

Last week, Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Association notified cannabis stores that their staff would need to ask customers to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter stores, beginning Oct. 1.

The Saskatchewan Independent Cannabis Retails Network (SICRN) represents more than 30 cannabis retail locations.

Canada’s Cannabis Industry Sales Expected to Run from $3.1 Billion to $10.1 Billion by 2025

RCMP Police Dog Sniffs Out Drugs During Traffic Stop

Saskatchewan RCMP say a police dog helped officers seize 300 grams of crack cocaine during a traffic stop near Maidstone. On Sunday afternoon, a Saskatchewan RCMP Roving Traffic Unit officer pulled over a vehicle on Highway 16 for having excessive windshield damage and window tint. RCMP Police Service Dog Kilo helped in a search of the vehicle and with his help, officers report finding 300 grams of crack cocaine and seven grams of illicit cannabis. The Saskatchewan RCMP note that 300 grams is about 600 daily doses.
