CMHA Waterloo Wellington calls for more education on dangers of THC

marijuana cigarette

Gary Stephens didn't realize he was experiencing psychosis until he was hospitalized.

"It wasn't like Garry on drugs," he recalled.

"It was a different Gary."

“I had delusions,” he said, adding that he typically doesn’t like to use that word, “I was king and I had all this money and one day and I went out to look for it. I even went to an ATM and I am trying to get money out but there was no money,”

The former patient turned Canadian Mental Health Association peer support worker believes his long-term THC use triggered his symptoms of paranoia and altered realities.

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo Wellington (CMHA WW) says the number of people like Stephens seeking help is on the rise.

A staff report regarding best practices with agricultural and industrial cannabis grow-ops within Tiny Township recommends a proactive initiative when it comes to odour concerns.

Last year, staff were directed to draft official plan and zoning bylaw amendments for a land-use policy and regulation framework for cannabis to bring back to council.

In presenting the follow-up report at a recent committee of the whole meeting, planning and development director Shawn Persaud explained that staff looked at township-initiated amendment definitions based on best practices regarding various factors, including the minimum distance to deal with lighting, traffic and odour from production facilities depending on their size and scale.

Toronto's newest cannabis store looks like a cookie shop

cannabis shop

If you glance briefly at the latest cannabis dispensary to hit Toronto, all you'll see is bright blue signage with a single word: Cookies.

Hopefully it's not too misleading to anyone, as there are no cookies sold inside, just lots and lots of weed. People familiar with more major cannabis brands will probably recognize the logo and not be confused at all, zeroing in on the brand's presence in Canada for the first time. The signage has swirly white writing on a sky blue background, and the logo is a curly "C" inside the silhouette of a cookie with a bite taken out of it, so you could be forgiven for thinking they're really all about baked goods.
