Focus on eyes: Marijuana can help with glaucoma but it's still not a recommended remedy

woman's eyes

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness.

The visual loss in glaucoma is the result of damage to the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain so we can see light, colors and objects.

Untreated glaucoma with uncontrolled eye pressure can cause the death of cells in the optic nerve, diminished peripheral vision and eventually blindness.

As of February 2022, a total of 37 states, the District of Columba, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands have legalized marijuana for medical uses, including treatment of glaucoma.

There is a lot of information regarding the health benefits of marijuana online and in the social media.

It is difficulty to sort out the truth from fiction.

stock screen

Canadian cannabis sales projected to double to $8.8B over next five years

The pace of sales in Canada's cannabis market may be slowing down, but it is still expected to double over the next five years, according to a new report.

That's the big takeaway from the latest market insights by Chicago-based industry consultancy Brightfield Group, which noted that doubling will come as more retail stores come online and regulations loosen.

Brightfield said it expects Canada's cannabis market to grow at an annual rate of 10 per cent over the next five years to $8.8 billion, driven by increased sales in edibles and vape products.

Here’s why cannabis stocks surged last week

cannabis plants

Canadian cannabis stocks like Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:WEED)(NASDAQ:CGC) are surging on the promise of United States legalization.

The price explosion for cannabis stocks was one of the biggest stories of the mid-2010s. Justin Trudeau and the Liberals rose to power in 2015, promising to pursue recreational legalization. They would deliver on that promise, spurring a cannabis gold rush in Canada. Interestingly, the momentum ground to a halt once recreational legalization became official in October 2018. Today, I want to discuss why cannabis stocks have broadly gained steam in late March. Is this the beginning of a new bull market? Let’s jump in.

Cannabis stocks rally on flurry of federal moves toward legalization

congress

While federal legalization remains elusive, lawmaker actions have boosted moribund cannabis stocks

Lawmakers taking fresh steps toward federal legalization of cannabis sparked a rally in cannabis stocks on Friday.

Following through on big moves higher in the previous session, beaten-up shares of cannabis stocks started getting off the mat.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote for the second time on the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act that would legalize cannabis. The news was reported in a Thursday article in Marijuana Moment.

The bill is on a list of other measures that House leaders plan to take up on the House floor next week.

What does the Bible say about marijuana? A review of “Cannabis and the Christian” by Dr. Todd Miles

book

At the opening session of a pastors’ conference several years ago, the audience broke into laughter when Dr. Todd Miles announced his breakout topic: “Marijuana and the Minister.”

When the time for his session finally arrived, after he had endured a lot of jokes and worried about a low turnout, eager listeners packed the room to overflowing.

In the intervening years, as marijuana has been legalized in more and more states, he has spoken about the topic many times and has always been bombarded by questions.

Now he has written a book, Cannabis and the Christian: What the Bible Says about Marijuana, to provide some answers.

3 key questions answered about cannabis and chemotherapy

women

With cannabis accessibility on the rise, it’s more important than ever that consumers and patients also gain access to objective, evidenced-based information on cannabis use and health concerns.

Although there is limited data to support the use of cannabis as a first-line treatment in cancer-related symptoms, many patients are consuming it to relieve the anxiety, pain, nausea and insomnia that often come with a cancer diagnosis and subsequent chemotherapy treatment.

In a 2021 study, 42% of breast cancer patients reported using cannabis for symptom relief. Seventy-eight (78%) percent were using it to help with pain, 70% were using it for sleep, 57% were seeking help with anxiety, and 46% were using it for nausea and vomiting.
