Based on research we have complied a list of states that will be vying for ending prohibition and legalization. With an election coming in 2016 all of these states on the list are going to have a measure on the ballot regarding marijuana. These are exciting times, friends. Hawaii: Hundreds attend seminar on opening medical marijuana dispensaries

Medical marijuana is a multibillion dollar industry and hundreds of hungry entrepreneurs are ready to make it a reality in Hawaii.

It’s up to Gov. Ige to sign it into law, but in the meantime, hundreds attended a seminar on Oahu Saturday to learn about the risks and necessary steps needed to open a medical marijuana dispensary.

If medical marijuana becomes legal, Hawaii as a whole will have 16 dispensaries: six on Oahu, four on Maui, four on Hawaii Island and two on Kauai.

To open a dispensary, you must be a legal resident of Hawaii for at least five years, and an applicant must also have at least over $1 million in the bank.

Hawaii Medical marijuana seminar attracts hundreds

It's been 15 years since Hawaii became one of the first states in the country to legalize medical marijuana.

Today, the state is on the edge of another major leap: opening dispensaries.

But this is complicated business.

Those who know the pitfalls were flocking to the islands to share their knowledge.

"There's nothing easy about this," said Michael Visher.

He jumped into the medical marijuana business in Colorado in 2009.

Since then, he's learned a few things:

"So, you could be paying more in taxes than you generate in revenue," he said.

There were lessons learned for Washington and Colorado.

Gonzo-Style Documentary High There Explores Pot Legalization Battle in Hawaii

They say it’s not the destination but the journey there that makes it an adventure. And man was this one a trip.

The journey kicked off three years ago with a filmmaker and his mission — shoot a travel series in Hawaii on the best places to get high. He took along a photographer buddy and they both decided on alter egos, calling themselves Dave High and Roland Jointz. Following numerous strange experiences with the locals, they managed to uncover a secret government plot to control the marijuana trade and keep a local advocate in jail for four years without a trial.

All 50 States Ranked By The Cost Of Weed (Hint: Oregon Wins)

They warned us this would happen. The states where recreational marijuana use is legal are also the states where marijuana is least expensive. The price of an ounce of weed ranges so widely from state to state that someone who smokes an ounce a month can move from Pittsburgh to Portland, Ore., and save enough money for a year’s worth of premium cable, the perfect companion for your habit.

Hawaii Medical marijuana dispensary law will face challenges

If a bill that sets up a medical marijuana dispensary system in Hawaii becomes law, the state’s Department of Health will have about a year to come up with administrative rules. Currently, the bill sits on Gov. David Ige’s desk after being passed by members of the state House and Senate earlier this week.

Under the proposed law, eight medical marijuana dispensary licenses will be issued; three on Oahu, two each on the Big Island and Maui County, and one on Kauai. Under the proposed program, each licensee can have two retail locations, for a total of 16 statewide.

Hawaii: Legislators pass medical marijuana dispensary bill

The state Legislature has passed a bill that would allow for as many as 16 medical marijuana dispensary sites across the state.

The Senate’s unanimous vote and the House’s  36-13 vote on Thursday comes 15 years after state leaders authorized the prescription and use of medical marijuana but fell short of establishing a dispensary system to provide raccess to the drug.

The measure, House Bill 321, now goes Gov. David Ige’s desk.  Ige representatives have said he’s open to signing a dispensary bill into law, and members of his cabinet have worked with legislators in crafting the measure.

Hawaii's medical marijuana licensees must have financial backing

Hawaii lawmakers on Thursday gave final passage to a bill that clears the way for medical marijuana dispensaries to open for business in the Islands as early as July 2016, but an expert says interested applicants will need a couple million dollars to become one of the state’s eight licensees.

Hawaii lawmakers may revive dead marijuana dispensaries bill

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii lawmakers are saying they might revive a bill to create a system of medical marijuana dispensaries.

The bill died late Friday when it failed to pass out of a committee before a deadline. But Senate President Donna Mercado Kim now says the Legislature may revive the bill on Monday.

Hawaii was among the first states to legalize medical marijuana nearly 15 years ago. But the estimated 13,000 patients approved for the drug statewide have generally been left to buy it on the black market or grow it on their own.

Advocates say they're glad the Legislature is reconsidering the bill, but they wish there was a more definitive outcome.

Hawaii: The magically appearing tax

As you might be aware, in 2000, Hawaii enacted a medical use of marijuana law (Act 228, Session Laws of Hawaii 2000). The problem, of course, has been how to get this medical marijuana to those who need it without violating other laws. So this year our Legislature is working on House Bill 321, which would establish standards for and regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries.
