The change will reduce some of the regulatory burdens for new and existing licence holders

As of April 19, cannabis processing licence holders in Canada will no longer need to submit a sales amendment application to sell their product.

On Thursday, Health Canada sent out an email to licensed processors across the country introducing the changes, which would automatically give a sales licence to all micro and standard processing licence holders and applicants.

Licence holders that aren’t currently authorized to sell dried flower will receive reissued licences with the amendments within the next 90 days.

Canadian-made cannabis growing device company Grobo declares bankruptcy

Grobo

The all-in-one weed growing device is no more.

Grobo is dead.

According to several reports and a Linkedin post from Bjorn Dawson, the company’s CEO and co-founder, Waterloo-based cannabis growing device startup Grobo has gone out of business after declaring bankruptcy in early January.

The Business Development Bank of Canada now owns the company’s assets and it’s unclear what the future holds for current Grobo users.

As of right now, the servers powering the company’s automated growth system remain online, however. That said, there are reports of Grobo Grow Box 2nd-generation buyers not receiving their devices and being forced to perform chargebacks on their credit cards. Grobo sold its grow devices in the U.S. and Canada.

red head woman

Despite more than three years of legal weed, conversations around cannabis and its interactions with mental health, especially for young people, remain stuck on abstinence, if they happen at all.

But a youth-led project aims to fix that problem with the launch of an online course that seeks to answer young people’s questions about the substance with available scientific evidence and lived experiences of their peers.

Cannabis growers still treated as criminals

hands in handcuffs

Ongoing prohibitionist laws lead to a cycle of mistrust that excludes rural growers from the legal regime.

Canadian minorities, like Indigenous people and people of colour, were disproportionally affected by cannabis prohibition and continue to be troubled by the criminal framework. It is less well known that many rural parts of B.C. with legacy producing cannabis histories like the Kootenays were also disproportionally affected during prohibition by frequent helicopter flyovers and road checks, unfounded house raids, excessive cannabis charges and convictions and other forms of overzealous enforcement, including being handcuffed in front of children.

This new campaign wants to bust weed myths

young couple

“Weed Out Misinformation” encourages honest conversations that prioritize science, removing the stigma attached to the drug.

Cannabis misinformation has been a main hurdle to clear since the drug’s existence became known. Now, a university in Canada is seeking to offer a little eduction to younger people, those who may be at risk for cannabis misuse.

The program hopes to debunk weed myths and offer the future generation a new view of cannabis.

The project from Humber College, which is being done in partnership with the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy and the Canadian Public Health Association, is called “Weed Out Misinformation.” It was devised by cannabis researchers and students at the college.
