Cannabis 2.0 numbers in Canada continue to roll higher

Canadian flag

In February, $265.4 million of recreational cannabis products were sold in Canada, approx. 3% less than the amount that was  sold in January.

The data comes after a few Canadian Licensed Producers (LPs)  reported quarterly financial results for the period that ended on December 31, 2021. We consider this to be a bearish indicator for Canadian LPs and will monitor how the sector continues to perform. (Technical 420)

The Canadian cannabis epidemic

cannabis

In a recent report by the New York Times, the most populace city in Canada, Toronto, was described as the wild west of marijuana shops. According to the report, Ontario's provincial government permitted the shops, by emergency order, to keep operating during the COVID 19 pandemic, even during lockdowns.

During this period, to the investors' delight, shares and stocks of licensed medical marijuana growers in Canada have multiplied in price.

However, the marijuana business was already expected to flourish even before the pandemic started in 2019, right after Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, to fulfill a campaign promise, introduced legislation to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in Canada.

Truss CEO expecting summer of cannabis-infused beverages after category’s rocky debut

Cannabis Drink

When cannabis-infused drinks were legalized in Canada in 2020, pot producers expected the beverages to flow all summer as consumers flocked to the new category.

Those visions were dashed when the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily closed shops that March and the following year was spent contending with a mishmash of health regulations, but Dave Schlosser believes that long-awaited summer demand is on its way.

“We think this will be the summer of CIB — cannabis-infused beverages — as people want to get out, want to socialize, want to try new things,” said the newly named president and chief executive of Truss Beverage Co., a joint venture between brewing giant Molson Coors Canada and cannabis company Hexo Corp.

Tilray stock: 3 catalysts we're waiting for

pill bottles

Cannabis investors are anxiously waiting for these developments to happen.

Tilray  (TLRY) is a cannabis market leader in Canada and Europe. However, shares of the company — along with other pot stocks — have been on a losing streak in recent years.

This downward trend is due both to fading hopes that the U.S. and other governments will legalize marijuana and to general weakness in the market.

However, recently, cannabis investors have had a glimmer of hope. Here are three catalysts that could send Tilray's stock skyrocketing.
