Some voice concern as two cannabis stores seek to open in University Village

Two cannabis dispensaries who have submitted applications for storefronts in University Village are facing criticism from UBC students and residents in the University Endowment Land (UEL).

There is currently a petition by Connie Chen, a UEL resident, with over 1,600 signatures protesting the two storefront applications expressing how cannabis dispensaries are inappropriate for UBC’s academic environment and how they put minors in a vulnerable position for exposure to illicit substances. Cannabis was legalized in Canada in 2018.

Other concerns communicated in the petition included the smell of cannabis and the potential for air pollution on campus.

Some students have expressed similar concerns to Chen and her petition.

CBD gummy scams featuring David Suzuki's image snare more and more victims, his foundation says

gummies

Bev Binder has been a supporter of the David Suzuki Foundation for years, so when she saw a Facebook advertisement for CBD gummies featuring his name, she jumped at the chance to buy them.

"I thought, oh, well this is something that could benefit the David Suzuki Foundation," said Binder, who uses CBD regularly to treat her arthritis.

Within moments of making the purchase with a credit card, she got the feeling that she might have been duped. She perused through the website a bit longer and quickly realized she had been scammed.

The Vancouver-based David Suzuki Foundation (DSF), which doesn't sell CBD products of any kind, is sounding the alarm as more and more people like Binder fall victim to the online scheme, which includes a series of fraudulent websites.
