With Trudeau's promise of legalization in the air, medical marijuana producers anticipate they'll be able to tap into a new and profitable market. But in Quebec, production and distribution numbers are still much lower than the West Coast and Ontario.

When drugs fail, and surgery is the only remaining option on the horizon, smoking cannabis may provide an effective and safe natural alternative for the debilitating inflammatory bowel disease known as Crohn’s disease. 

Crohn’s disease is a debilitating inflammatory bowel disease that chronically affects the lining of the digestive tract and is usually resistant to conventional drug-based treatment. Even with treatment the condition generally progresses to the point where surgery is required in 70% of sufferers. Surgery, however, does not usually provide a cure, with 30% undergoing surgery seeing a recurrence of symptoms within three years, and 60% within 10 years.1

Recent research discovered that smoking cannabis really can reduce anxiety. U.S. scientists found marijuana regulates both anxiety and the body’s fight-or-flight response. But not everyone is supporting their findings and many claim that cannabis actually causes anxiety. The key here is in the dosage.

Guillermo Velasco of the Complutense University of Madrid says there is evidence that cannabinoids - chemicals in cannabis - actually reduced tumour growth in animals.

But he says that there is little interest from pharmaceutical companies.

Velasco told Upworthy,, ‘One of the reasons why [it] is so complicated to promote clinical studies is that the active components of marijuana are natural products that cannot be patented and therefore there are few pharma companies interested in their clinical development.’

In a matter of weeks, the state of New York will officially launch its medical marijuana program. However, the word on the street is although state officials claim the “program remains on track for full implementation” by January 2016, only a slight few will actually have access to this medicine because there aren’t many doctors qualified to offer patient recommendations.

Doctors and soldiers are fighting for medical marijuana for post-traumatic stress

For some veterans and their families, a Nov. 11 provision allowing Veteran Affairs doctors to recommend marijuana in states where it’s legal, means that they’re packing up and heading to greener pastures.

The legislation, which has yet to pass through the House, does not change existing laws that prevent the possession or distribution of medical marijuana on VA property, nor does it do anything for veterans in states where it’s not legal.

A quick expansion of Georgia’s medical marijuana likely went up in smoke Wednesday when a state-sanctioned board voted down a proposal to allow the plants’ cultivation within the state.

The decision by the Commission on Medical Cannabis came a day after House Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he wants to give Georgians access to cannabis oil made from homegrown marijuana.

The commission held their last meeting of the year and made initial recommendations about improving the state’s new law.
