A MOTHER who legally treats her daughter’s seizures with cannabis oil has admitted she is also using the drug to treat her six-year-old son’s ADHD.

Cherie and Trevor Dell had already been using medicinal cannabis oil to help treat their three-year-old daughter Abbey, who suffers a rare genetic disorder known as CDKL5, which ­results in constant violent ­seizures.

But their decision to also use it on their son Wyatt, 6, could see them fall foul of the authorities.

Wyatt has both autism and attention deficient hyperactivity disorder, which has left him prone to violence.

He has thrown tables around his grade one classroom and made life a misery for his five brothers and sisters.

VERNON – Supporters of local medical marijuana dispensaries rallied today in Vernon. The show of support was organized after police visited all of the city’s dispensaries.

Elizabeth Bakker was among those who joined the rally appealing to keep Vernon’s dispensaries open for people like her 13 year old daughter.

“This summer we were up to 140 to 170 seizures a day,” she says, with her daughter standing by her side. “[We were] restricted to our house because she could not walk because of how many seizures she was having.”

Marijuana has been proven to be tremendously effective when it comes to treating epilepsy. It seems like most of the time that I see medical marijuana being talked about on the news or in print media, it’s almost always talking about how CBD can help epilepsy, with countless success stories. There are a lot of uses for medical marijuana, all of which I support. But I especially support cannabis for the use of epilepsy because of how many personal success stories I’ve personally witnessed.

Behind strain names like Charlotte’s Web and Haleigh’s Hope are stories of children whose epileptic seizures were dramatically reduced through medical cannabis. But while evidence so far has been anecdotal, doctors this week are presenting the first scientific studies to back them up.

For those of you familiar with the process of applying for a medical cannabis card, here in Illinois, you know that the biggest hurdle is finding a doctor willing to recommend. No prescribing here, heaven forbid...because, the doctors are fearful of losing their licenses or criminal reprisals or they are ignorant of its medicinal value or they think it is a joke or all of the above. Hey docs, no one is asking you to consume cannabis...just let your patients have access to it. So, when an article about an Australian doctor, Dr. Andrew Katelaris, who was willing to risk everything to provide cannabis oil to epileptic kids and adults, popped up on my FB newsfeed, I thought...we need a doctor like this in Illinois!

After years of research into the question, in July of last year Israeli authorities made post-traumatic stress disorder the only psychiatric condition for which the Health Ministry will approve the use of medical marijuana. The decision, backed by the Israel Psychiatric Association, was a cause for optimism among many Israeli veterans suffering from PTSD.
