Throughout the past year we have no doubt seen groundbreaking strides in the cannabis universe.

Our continued efforts to dismantle the failed experiment of prohibition are full of excitement but also frustration.

But even though we still have a lot of work to do, it is simply awe-inspiring to look back on this year in cannabis.

To celebrate and share our gratitude, here is a month-by-month snapshot of cannabis in 2015. The resulting story arc is a powerful indication that momentum is stronger than ever – cannabis legalization will not be stopped!

It comes as no shock to anyone who knows cannabis that it’s something of a miracle herb.

But as we bring this plant out of the dark and into the light, it continues to blow our minds – just how great the benefits of marijuana actually are!

We are talking about benefits to public health, to the economy, and to each and every person who develops a positive relationship with this therapeutic plant.

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos is legalizing the cultivation and sale of marijuana for medical and scientific purposes. “We do this through a decree that seeks to take advantage of the qualities of cannabis, or marijuana, to improve the life of people”.

A terminally ill woman who successfully sued New Hampshire for the right to legally purchase medical marijuana has accomplished that aim.

New Hampshire patients who qualify for medical marijuana will begin receiving identification cards needed to legally purchase and possess cannabis as early as next week.

State health officials said they'll begin issuing the cards Monday. New Hampshire's medical marijuana dispensaries won't begin operating until the spring. The cards will allow qualifying patients to legally possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana, meaning they could buy it in other states without fear of facing charges.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos signed a decree Tuesday legalizing and regulating medical marijuana, the latest softening of the country's hardline tactics in the war on drugs.

"We have just taken an important step to place Colombia at the forefront of the fight against disease, with a decree... that allows licenses to be granted for the possession of seeds, cannabis plants and marijuana, and for the plant to be grown for exclusively medical and scientific purposes," Santos said in a nationally televised address.

"Permitting the use of medical marijuana does not go against our international commitments on drug control," he added.

Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years by everyone from the ancient Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians; to Indians, Assyrians, and the ancient Arab world more generally. Whilst these ancient cultures were obviously aware of the therapeutic potential of cannabis, they existed before the dawn of modern science, and so obviously could not have had any real understanding of what it was about cannabis that helped them.
