A New York dispensary will offer kosher certified marijuana starting in January. Vireo Health of New York, one of the five companies permitted to grow the cannabis, has received their certification from the Orthodox Union (OU).

Ari Hoffnug, the CEO of Vireo Health tells Medical Daily that he thinks this is a step in right direction to combat the stigma associated with medical cannabis. “It is our hope that having the OU certification will help to send a message to all faiths and  backgrounds. Florida’s Hit Another Snag as Nurseries Challenge Their Rejection

At this rate, I think it will have taken Florida longer than any other state to implement one, single, medical marijuana law. Since being signed into law in 2014 we’ve continuously hit one hold up after another – and just when it feels like we’re finally picking up momentum and getting somewhere, things come to a screeching halt.

After the five allotted nurseries were selected at the end of November it seemed that we may finally see patients getting relief early in 2016. Hopes for that might have been too high, however, because a total of 11 different companies have challenged the Department of Health’s ruling on the matter.

Purified marijuana compound may reduce stubborn epileptic seizures

A purified compound derived from marijuana may help reduce seizures in children and young adults with severe forms of epilepsy that resist other treatments, a new study suggests.

Patients who added a 99 percent-cannabidiol (CBD) oil to their current treatments went from an average of 30 seizures a month to fewer than 16 - representing a 37 percent reduction over 12 weeks, researchers report in Lancet Neurology.

"In this group that has been extremely treatment resistant, this was an incredibly positive finding with the caveat that we didn't have a comparison group," said lead author Dr. Orrin Devinsky, of NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.
