Charges stayed against four Ontario men accused of using private helicopter to transfer cannabis into U.S.

Authorities allege that a Jet Ranger helicopter stuffed with cannabis was flown across the border at low altitudes to avoid radar detection on several occasions.

Charges against four men from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) accused of discreetly flying cannabis into the U.S. using a private helicopter have been dropped.

The men, ranging in age from 25 to 40, were charged with conspiracy to commit the unlawful export of cannabis, possession of cannabis for the purpose of exporting and unlawful cultivation, propagation and harvest of cannabis plants last September.

Hamilton police’s latest seizure includes $3 million in drugs, mostly cannabis

A three-month probe into drug trafficking and gun violence in Hamilton, Ontario, has led to the police seizing more than $3 million in drugs.

Cannabis accounted for the lion’s share of drugs confiscated, according to the Hamilton Police Service (HPS). Specifically, officers seized 75 kilograms of processed cannabis estimated to be worth $1 million, 2,500 marijuana plants valued at about $2 million and $20,000 in other illicit drugs.

Health Canada-approved buds included in drugs found after 16-month investigation, police say

Ontario police have charged 21 people after seizing cannabis valued at $32 million that allegedly includes Health Canada-approved marijuana, as part of an investigation that began in June 2020.

Ontario Provincial Police worked with multiple police forces as part of Operation Gainsborough.

On Tuesday, investigators described how the accused were running websites selling cannabis from registered growers, and delivering the drugs to customers in London, Kitchener, Hamilton and Toronto. Police allege products were also being sold internationally.

Cannabis seized from vehicle in Lindsay, man and youth charged: police

Two people were arrested after cannabis was seized from a vehicle in Lindsay, Ont., Wednesday afternoon.

According to the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service, officers responded to a mischief complaint in the area of Riverview Road in Lindsay at around 1:55 p.m. Nov. 10. (image source: City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service)

Police say an officer located a vehicle parked in the area with three occupants.

The officer spoke with the occupants and noticed a “large quantity” of cannabis in the vehicle, police said. A quantity of cannabis products and cash were seized.

Five charged in cannabis bust

The Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit and North Bay OPP Crime Unit seized about 3,700 cannabis plants worth an estimated $3.7 million after executing a warrant at an industrial building Wednesday on Exeter Road in North Bay.

“As a result of the warrant being executed, police seized approximately 3,700 cannabis plants at various stages of growth as well as numerous drug-related paraphernalia,” OPP said in a media release.

Five people inside the building were arrested and charged.

Yihua Zheng, 58, of North Bay and Qui Yan, 33, of Markham was charged with cultivating cannabis plants at a place that is not their dwelling and fraud under $5,000.

Kelowna RCMP warn cannabis stores after armed robbery

Investigators ask for public's help in Sunday night holdup.

The Kelowna RCMP is warning cannabis stores to be vigilant after a pair of armed masked robbers held up a downtown dispensary.  

Investigators say a man and woman entered a cannabis store on Lawrence Avenue just before 11 p.m. Sunday night.

"The pair threatened the employee with a firearm and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and store merchandise," said Cpl. Tammy Lobb.

Responding frontline officers and a canine unit were unable to track the pair.   

Police say this was a targeted crime, and are urging cannabis stores to review security measures and be vigilant.

Negotiators for the Social Democrats, Greens and pro-business Free Democrats are hammering out the details, including conditions under which the sale and use of recreational cannabis would be allowed and regulated, according to people familiar with the talks, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

FORT ST. JOHN, BC – Two local cannabis stores believe that the stigma surrounding cannabis use has been slowly improving since legalization.

FSJ Hive Cannabis manager Christine O’Keefe believes that communication is the key to combating the stigma associated with cannabis use.

“I’ve seen people who’ve never smoked in their entire life come in and mostly go for like CBD products or a drink or something like that,” said O’Keefe
