Colorado has backed off a plan to require edible marijuana products to come with a stop-sign stamp.

State marijuana regulators released an updated proposal this week detailing the state’s upcoming requirement that pot-infused cookies, brownies and other foods have a distinct look when outside the packaging.

The day when recreational marijuana will be available for purchase in Oregon is fast approaching. At the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, jobs are being created to get ready for implementing recreational marijuana policies.

Some context: On Oct. 1, medical marijuana dispensaries in most areas will begin selling some kinds of marijuana products to consumers. On Jan. 4, the state will begin accepting permit applications for marijuana businesses. Oregonians voted to legalize recreational marijuana through Measure 91, which passed in 2014.

With cannabis policy reform gaining traction, predictably dire predictions about regulated markets have followed.

You may have heard that cannabis regulation is the first step in an inevitable slide toward an unchecked, out-of-control “Big Marijuana” industry driven only by profit. Vox even referred to this concern as the “best argument against marijuana legalization.”

But claims that cannabis policy reform will lead to Big Marijuana underplay the level of government control that is made possible under regulation.

Patients have waited a very long time for safe access in Illinois. It took a very, very long time to get a medical marijuana bill passed, and even then, the bill was extremely limited. Then there was the long fiasco of awarding business license winners, which transitioned into more waiting for the licenses to actually be issued so that cultivation could begin. Today was a very big day for safe access in Illinois because the first dispensary license was finally issued today. Per WQAD:

DENVER – When you speak with Tim Cullen, it’s immediately obvious that he knows a lot about the science of growing marijuana.

As the CEO of Colorado Harvest Company, he could probably talk nonstop about how he has perfected the grow operation at his massive Denver facility, which can hold about 8,000 medical and recreational plants.

And once you find out what he did for a living before starting to grow and sell pot commercially in 2009, his intense knowledge about the subject makes perfect sense.

The New York State Department of Health continues to say medical marijuana will be available to patients by this coming January, but families and advocates aren't so sure.

Christine Emerson has been fighting for the medicine for her daughter Julia.

"It takes 3 months to grow and harvest the plants," Emerson said. "So that puts us really toward the end of the year, and we're not even talking about producing the medicine and having it tested."

WILL THE MEDICINE BE READY?

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) announced today the registration of its first medical cannabis dispensary.

Harbory, located at 8195 Express Drive in Marion, IL, successfully completed the DFPR business dispensary registration process and inspection and is now licensed to operate as a medical cannabis dispensary. Under the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, the State of Illinois requires medical cannabis dispensing organizations to be registered with DFPR to acquire medical cannabis from a registered cultivation center for the purpose of dispensing cannabis, paraphernalia, or related supplies and educational materials to registered qualifying patients.
