Locating the Perfect Real Estate for your Cannabis Business

Matt Chapdelaine is the founder of HerbFront.com. HerbFront.com looks to help cannabis cultivators and retail dispensary owners find real estate in desirable locations where landlords and ordinances are friendly or at least tolerant of cannabis businesses.

It’s right to celebrate when you win a cannabis cultivation or dispensary license, but shortly after the celebration it becomes evident that there are many difficult tasks ahead. One is finding real estate for your dispensary or cultivation facility that is properly zoned in a good location with a landlord that welcomes cannabis tenants. Today we’re going to learn how Herb Front solves these problems. I am pleased to welcome Matt Chapdelaine founder of Herb Front to CannaInsider today. Welcome Matt.

Digital business leaders pulling ahead of the pack, digital businesses on the rise

New survey results from Gartner Inc. show a widening gap forming between organizations already undertaking digital business initiatives and those only in the planning stage, demonstrating a clear need to invest in digital business.

Tax quirk forces Colorado to waive pot taxes for a day

Think of it as a back-to-school sales tax break, but for stoners.

Colorado's unusual tax law is forcing the state to suspend taxes on recreational marijuana for one day — Sept. 16 — during which a 10 percent sales tax and 15 percent excise tax won't be collected.

The sales-tax break would shave $20 off the price of a mid-grade ounce of pot in the Denver area, where ounces this summer sell for about $200 before tax.

It's unusual for a state that has many times rejected sales-tax holidays on things like school supplies, clothing or energy-efficient appliances. Officials say it could cost the state $3 million to $4 million.

Maine tribe nears deal to develop marijuana cultivation facility

A Passamaquoddy leader says a letter of intent with a Colorado consultant is about hemp production, but that could change, and legal gray areas abound.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township has signed a letter of intent with a Denver-based medical marijuana management and consulting company to develop a cultivation facility on tribal land in Washington County.

Monarch America Inc. announced last week that it intends to design and manage a “state of the art” marijuana cultivation facility in an existing 35,000-square-foot building on Passamaquoddy Tribal Trust Land in Princeton, Maine.

Months after marijuana holds, Post tests find pesticides in products

Nearly six months after the city of Denver began a crackdown on unapproved pesticides in marijuana products, a spot-check by The Denver Post found that the chemicals were still being sold to consumers.

Eight lab tests commissioned by The Post on recreational marijuana extracts purchased at two shops found most contained no pesticides that are not approved by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

But two tests on concentrated marijuana products sold at one store found levels of three pesticides the state says cannot be used to grow marijuana. Both items were manufactured by Mahatma Concentrates in Denver, which made its extracts from raw marijuana grown by Treatments Unlimited, which operates the Altitude shops in Denver.

Lawyer pens book on cannabis business law

Even in states where it’s legal, selling cannabis and related products is sticky business — sticky icky icky. By closely adhering to state and local laws and keeping a low profile, however, entrepreneurs can greatly reduce the risk of losing their livelihood (and freedom, in cases of imprisonment) to the federal government, according to Asheville attorney and author Rod Kight. He’ll discuss his new book, Cannabis Business Law: What You Need to Know, at Malaprop’s Bookstore and Café on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m.
