Sen. Kefalas: Let Colorado keep marijuana tax

When it comes to the fiscal underpinnings of Colorado government, the moving parts — and rules regulating them — are almost too many to count.

But with undisputed needs in areas including transportation, affordable housing and education, how do the parts work together and which ones can be jimmied so the state can pay for its needs?

State Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, expects several attempts to change Colorado’s tax collection and refund policy in coming months, even if temporarily.

It all starts in November, when the state asks voters to let it keep $58 million in marijuana sales taxes.

IL: Medical marijuana dispensary in Canton on the verge of opening

CANTON — The owners of Salveo Health and Wellness hope to be dispensing medical marijuana within the next few weeks.

Scott Miller, CEO of Salveo, 3100 N. Main St., says he’s mainly waiting on two things before opening his doors to people who qualify to use medical marijuana for any of 38 diseases: for the State of Illinois to complete the verification system and for the first crop to be ready for cultivation.

Miller told a crowd of over 30 during an educational seminar Wednesday evening that the finishing touches on the dispensary, the only one of its kind in the region, were just finished a few hours earlier.

Should medical marijuana be legalized?

Is it time to give the sick access to this inexpensive cure?

Ira* has a condition called multiple sclerosis, which debilitates her brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Every attack is different: Sometimes, upper and lower extremities weaken. On some days, she goes blind. Often, Ira cannot stand, or walk, which for MS patients, can become extremely painful. Due to her illness, Ira has wrestled with bouts of depression and helpless agony. So when a cured epileptic patient told her his story about the miraculous effect of cannabis oil, she had to try it. She uses it sparingly: Two drops before sleep, and her tremors dwindle.

Stop Grand Announcements With No Facts

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is simply unacceptable that one person or entity can state publicly that they have hundreds of millions and sometimes billions in investment lined up but fall short on giving even an iota of evidence to support their claims.

This again was on display on the front page of the Jamaica Observer yesterday, with a headline screaming "US$100 million ganja deal - Canadian company to develop medicinal products from J'can marijuana for int'l market". The story went on to state that "Courtney Betty, the Jamaican-Canadian who heads THC, did not go into great detail, but said the deal would create job opportunities for many Jamaicans." Unbelievable!

Ganja ready for the big times

Going by the announcement by Canada-based Timeless Herbal Care Limited (THC), as carried in the Tuesday edition of this newspaper, Jamaica stands to benefit from a US$100-million deal to develop medical marijuana products here for the international market over the next 10 years. This is big big news for ganja.

Mr Courtney Betty, the Jamaican-Canadian who heads THC, offered the view that the deal between his THC and Denver, Colorado-based O.penVAPE, said to be the largest consumer cannabis brand, marked the "first time in history that an international collaboration has been created to produce cannabis-infused products outside of the United States".

GANJA DEAL CLOSE

Jamaica’s age-old quest to begin legally exporting large amounts of marijuana for medicinal purposes seemed to be closer than ever to reality with reports this week of a major partnership between a U.S. company which wants to use weed from the island as a base for its medical products.

Officials said that the Colorado-based firm of Timeless Herbal Care, one of the largest and well known players in the industry, is planning to team up with Jamaica’s world class marijuana growers to obtain supplies from the island. The project is being billed as one with a potential to rake in about $100 million over 10 years and will be one of the first efforts by an American company to source such large amounts of weed for commercial purposes from foreign soil.

Niagara Falls still grappling with legal pot sites

Council appears ready to accept medical marijuana facilities.

But it’s still trying to figure out where they should go in Niagara Falls and the distance they should be from schools, churches and homes.

After a lengthy debate Tuesday night, where politicians discussed a consultant’s study, council directed staff to come up with options for a future meeting where residents will be able to speak.

Council wants maps showing lands affected, the distance separating medical marijuana buildings and sensitive areas.

Alex Herlovitch, the city’s director of planning, building and development, said it would allow council to “see how much land we actually have where these facilities could locate.”
