Decision Time for California Marijuana Growers

As California moves towards legalization of marijuana, even for recreational use, longtime growers have a dilemma. A group that is used to operating covertly has some resistance to coming out into the open. On the one hand, they don’t want to miss the potential that legalization will bring, but they worry about revealing information that could be used against them. Case in point is a new offering from Humboldt County.

DU students travel to Uruguay to learn about the cannabis culture

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay -- Colorado leads the way in the marijuana business with states, countries and even Universities around the world looking at our program.  A group of Denver University (DU) students traveled to Uruguay as part of an international study program to examine the country’s cannabis culture and how it compares to Colorado.

It was a surprise for the students when they saw a glimpse of a marijuana grow cultivated by the Uruguay government.   “Wow…It was a room that looked like a field of marijuana plants. I’d never seen anything like that.” said Brittany Sandage.

The DEA Allows Unlikely Candidate to Import Cannabis Internationally

The complex politics of cannabis make for some very strange bedfellows, and the latest case is no exception. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration approved the New Jersey-based organization Catalent to receive imported cannabis for research purposes.

Catalent Pharma Solutions, which is classified as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), is based out of Somerset, New Jersey, but the site it registered with the DEA is in Kansas City, Missouri. The Federal Notice released by the Administration states:

Australia: Christmas Island ponders push into medical cannabis

Khaliesha Amin is helping her island reinvent itself beyond mining, and beyond the once-booming business of immigration detention.

For more than 100 years, the export of phosphate rock to Asia has sustained Christmas Island, 2700km northeast of Perth. It is how Ms Amin’s grandfather and father earned a living. She has worked for the mine since 2007 and it remains the island’s biggest employer of locals, directly responsible for more than 200 jobs.

But the company estimates there is at most 10 years of export production left. During the past decade, the Coalition and Labor have shown a reluctance to allow mining to expand on the island, which is home to several endemic species and is now more than 60 per cent national park.

Growing Popularity of Infused Products Pushing Cannabis into the Mainstream

Historically speaking, generations of magic brownies and jerry-rigged bongs aside, there has been relatively little thought or innovation in the area of consuming cannabis. Almost as long as marijuana has been consumed in North America, simply smoking the flower has been de rigueur.

Canada: LCBO well suited to sell marijuana when legal, Kathleen Wynne says

Ontario premier says it makes sense to use distribution system province already has in place

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne says it "makes a lot of sense" to use the LCBO to sell marijuana after the federal government legalizes sale of the drug.

"It makes sense to me that the liquor distribution mechanism that we have in place — the LCBO — is very well-suited to putting in place the social responsibility aspects that would need to be in place," she said Monday.

"Obviously, I don't know what the timeline is with the federal government, but it seems to me that using that distribution network of the LCBO … I think that that makes a lot of sense."
