Just 40 percent of marijuana-related businesses have bank accounts

State-legal marijuana businesses struggle with federal banking roadblocks.

According to a new survey of 400 cannabis professionals across the country conducted by Marijuana Business Daily, just about 40 percent of marijuana-related businesses have bank accounts for their companies.

Of businesses that actually handle the cannabis plant directly, only 30 percent have bank accounts, while 51 percent of ancillary firms in the cannabis industry have business  bank accounts.

Detroit pastors declare war on marijuana dispensaries

DETROIT - Some Detroit pastors are on a mission to wipe out weed dispensaries in the city.

They say they have had enough of the smell, the addition crime and what it’s doing to Detroit's youth.

That is why the Detroit Coalition of Concerned Pastors is pushing the city council to shut down the nearly 200 medical marijuana dispensaries that now line city streets.

"We don't need this in our community, period," said Pastor Marvin Winans.

"The state of Michigan didn't authorize any of them to open and neither did the city of Detroit," said Pastor Darell Reed. "And they are popping up all over the place. It's a problem and a nuisance."

NY Medical marijuana on track, but questions remain

ALBANY – New York health officials and the manufacturers say they are on track to start providing medical marijuana to critically ill patients next month.

Questions remain, however, over whether doctors and patients will be enrolled in the system quickly enough to make the drug available by the Jan. 5 target date.

"There's no sign of a system in place yet for patients. That's a major concern," said Julie Netherland, deputy state director for the Drug Policy Alliance, an advocacy group. "We get calls from patients every day wanting to sign up, and we have to tell them we don't know yet."
