88 Million Dollars Worth Of Marijuana Sold In Colorado In January 2016

The sales figures are in from Colorado for January 2016, and while they are down from the previous month, the figures are still substantial. Last year the State of Colorado sold just shy of one billion dollars worth of cannabis. This year virtually all projections have Colorado eclipsing the one billion dollar mark, and the sales figures from January would put Colorado ahead of that pace. Per The Cannabist:

Cannabis Drug Succeeds in Epilepsy, Doubling Value of GW Pharma

An experimental cannabis-based drug has successfully treated children with a rare form of severe epilepsy in a keenly anticipated clinical trial, more than doubling the value of its maker GW Pharmaceuticals.

The study of GW's Epidiolex in Dravet syndrome is the first of four final-stage Phase III epilepsy trials, with results expected this year, that the drugmaker hopes will confirm the therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids, the active ingredients found in marijuana.

Marijuana Businesses Look to Move Away From Pot Stereotypes

TORONTO - You won't find brightly coloured bongs or bubble gum-flavoured rolling papers displayed against the backdrop of exposed brick and modern, industrial-style furnishings at Tokyo Smoke.

Instead, the shop - located in a former shipping dock nestled between two warehouses in Toronto's west end - carries high-end pot paraphernalia befitting the pages of a design magazine while also serving up cups of artisanal coffee.

Pipes handcrafted by California-based ceramicist Ben Medansky sit alongside a pricey portable vaporizer, a reimagined version of the French press coffeemaker launched via a Kickstarter campaign and a selection of what shop owner Alan Gertner calls "museum quality collectibles" - items such as vintage Barbies and a vintage Hermes bag.

Other Communities Mulling Cannabis Club Conundrum Faced by Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs isn't alone in banning cannabis clubs. Washington state did so last summer, and Portland, Ore., followed suit this month.

Englewood, Colo., was set to ban them but decided to extend its moratorium to June 15 while it explores how to regulate them instead.

But while the Colorado Springs City Council on Tuesday ordered cannabis clubs to phase out their businesses over the next eight years, Denver residents will vote Nov. 8 on an initiative to license and regulate the clubs.

Colorado law firm warns immigrants coming to Colorado for the state’s marijuana industry that they could be placing themselves at large financial and legal risk

One of the oldest and largest immigration law firms in the Rocky Mountain West says it’s seeing a growing number of immigrants coming to Colorado to take part in the state’s so-called “green rush” of legal marijuana businesses, only to have their hopes of financial success quickly dashed and their futures in the United States put at risk.

Attorneys at Denver-based Lau and Choi, P.C. say many immigrants are flocking to Colorado because of rumors that they can legally grow 99 marijuana plants there.

“We’re concerned that there’s a lot of rumors and misinformation among immigrants, particularly in the Chinese community, regarding the legality of marijuana in Colorado,” says Charles “Mac” McIntyre IV, a Mandarin-fluent attorney at Lau & Choi.

Getting past the stereotypes: Helping to update the image and message of legal cannabis

Some people within marijuana’s business culture still wear the “stoner” label with pride; showing solidarity with the men and women who brought cannabis into national awareness more than a half-century ago.

But times have surely changed and the legal cannabis industry has evolved into something that most marijuana enthusiasts in the 60s, 70s and 80s would have considered a pipe dream: a legitimate, multi-billion-dollar industry that Washington, D.C., Wall Street and other parts of America’s political and economic sector now scrutinize closely.
