Don't All Rush at Once, but This Legal Cannabis Startup Is Hiring Tech Staff

OK. So it’s not a tester job, duh, but Confident Cannabis is looking for front and backend developers in San Francisco and this is actually a chance to be part of a pretty cool social experiment, as much as being close to the green stuff.

As legislators across the world, most notably in the US, are taking another look at whether prohibition of weed has ever really made economic or social sense, Silicon Valley startups are doing what they do best – working out how to grab a piece of this growing market.

Canada: Surge In Marijuana Dispensaries Catches Cities By Surprise

A recent spike in the number of storefront marijuana dispensaries in parts of the country is prompting calls for the government to regulate an area not covered by current legislation.

The Canadian Association of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries estimates there are at least 350 such storefronts in Canada, with dozens opening in Toronto alone in the past few months.

Opponents say the storefront dispensaries are technically illegal and should be closed immediately.

But medical marijuana advocates say the answer is to introduce regulations to standardize the quality of the product they sell and the criteria for clients looking to buy it.

Can Marijuana Stocks Succeed Without Federal Legalization?

Investors have quite the dilemma on their hands. In one corner, marijuana is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States. ArcView Market Research estimates legal sales can grow at a compound annual rate of 30% between 2016 and 2020. In the other corner, we have an idle group of lawmakers in Washington, D.C., who are stymieing the industry's efforts to expand and profit.

So which side will win out? For that answer, we asked two of our regular contributors on the legal marijuana debate for their opinion on whether marijuana stocks could succeed without the support of the federal government. Here's what they had to say.

Investors Should Be Encouraged by 3 New Marijuana Statistics From the "Greenest" State

We can assume there were quite a few cheers when California passed Proposition 215 in 1996, becoming the first state to legalize marijuana's medical use, but 2016 could go down as the most remarkable year for the marijuana industry to date.

Medical Marijuana Businesses Expected To Grow Throughout PA

Medical marijuana is now legal in Pennsylvania, and that means new job opportunities for people looking to get started in the business.

Doug Porter with the Cannabis Career Institute ran the workshop that taught about marijuana jobs in dispensary management, bud-tending, delivery service and security.

He says during the seminar, people learned how to get started in the evolving industry.

“We want to make sure that people are fully aware of what their options are,” Porter tells KYW Newsradio.

Porter says the recent legalization of medical marijuana in Pennsylvania makes this a prime time to start a marijuana business.

East Coast organic marijuana producer ramps up to serve vast legalized market

Denis Arsenault hosted an important visitor the other day at his Moncton offices, a moment that revealed much about his company's grand ambitions.

Arsenault is CEO of OrganiGram, producer of Canada's only organic medical marijuana, and the only licensed grower east of Ontario.

His visitor was Brian Gallant, the boyish, 33-year-old premier of New Brunswick, who came to offer wage subsidies to help the company expand.

Arsenault, whose company aims to get a running start on a legalized recreational marijuana market, did not miss the irony of Gallant's visit.

The premier is supporting marijuana production just 30 years after one of his predecessors, Richard Hatfield, was arrested and put on trial for marijuana possession.

Colombia's Big Plans for Medical Marijuana Will Negatively Impact Mom & Pop Growers

The store front of Ganja Farm in downtown Bogotá is small and nondescript, but the pungent smell on approach is unmistakable. A quick glance through the barred front door reveals a network of metallic ductwork. It does not reveal the marijuana plants the company grows, or the lab where they turn them into health products.

Inside a cozy little office, an elderly man in his work clothes that are splattered with dry paint, sits talking to Camilo Andrés Cruz, one of the founders of Ganja Farm. Cruz puts a small canister of green cannabis-infused ointment for his client's arthritis in a cloth bag and sees him on his way.

"We don't want to sell the company to other people," Cruz says later. "We love this."
