Clinical Cannabis Meets the Tech World in the New Releaf Cannabis App

Cannabis 101 tells us there are three basic types of strains: Sativa, Indica, and hybrid. Sativa strains give an uplifting head high, Indica strains produce a more relaxed effect on the body, and hybrids are a mixture of the two. However, without proper research, it’s really a guessing game of what strain is the correct one to use to treat your specific condition.

The new Releaf app has users record how they are feeling during a smoking session to learn which strains people are using to make themselves feel better.

Downtrodden Desert Town Is Experiencing a Marijuana Boom

Growers now operating at this facility in downtown Los Angeles will be among the tenants of a planned 380,000-square-foot facility in Desert Hot Springs.

Carlos Bravo, the owner of a tow company here, was at work late last year when a real estate agent came to him offering half a million dollars for 5 acres of undeveloped, brush-pocked desert — five times what he'd paid for the land six months earlier.

"I thought he was joking," Bravo said.

The man came back the next day, making it clear he was not.

A few days after he had signed the paperwork, Bravo said, another man offered him $1 million.

AusCann in medicinal cannabis alliance

Australian medicinal cannabis firm AusCann has entered a partnership with the world's biggest legal cannabis producer, Canada's Canopy Growth Corporation.

As Australia's nascent medicinal cannabis sector starts to develop, AusCann says its deal with Canopy puts it in pole position for international expansion opportunities.

So-called "pot stocks" have been encouraged by the Australian government's decision in February to allow cannabis cultivation for medical or scientific purposes.

AusCann said the deal will give it access to Canopy's expertise in cultivation, manufacture and supply of quality medicinal cannabis ahead of a planned ASX listing in July.

The Wild West of Cannabis Trademarking

As the cannabis market slowly creeps its way into mainstream media, more growers are “coming out of the closet” by flaunting their grow styles and top-quality strains. With this shift into the spotlight, the issue of trademarking and protecting genetics/intellectual property is becoming quite serious and a focus of many in the industry.

The evolution of strain names is quite fascinating. In the beginning, strains were typically named after their area of origin (think Afghani, Purple Thai, Hindu Kush, etc.).

Prices Are Dropping for the Legal Cannabis Market

During the initial period right after legalization, residents of Colorado and Washington came to an unfortunate realization – legal marijuana was expensive. An eighth that would have cost you $50 from your illegal dealer would end up costing you upwards of $70-80 in a retail dispensary during that first year or so. Sadly, this drove many residents to continue to buy marijuana illegally, where it was all around more affordable – the main revenue of those cannabis shops came from out of state residents looking for the “legal weed experience”, as it were.

Stamp, Share, & Save! Why Customer Loyalty Programs Are Important For Your Marijuana Delivery Business

According to Invesp, just an increase of 5% in customer loyalty can lead to a 25%-100% increase in profit per customer, and on average, loyal customers are 10X more valuable than first-time customers. Therefore, it is clear nothing beats customer loyalty and retention when it comes to guaranteeing business continuity. In a competitive marijuana market where customers can make snap decisions to switch their dispensary providers or delivery suppliers, customer retention programs can make all the difference.

How Billboards Became the Cannabis Industry’s Ad Darling

In a (successful) effort to stir up media attention for an Arizona legalization initiative, the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol this week put up Mothers Day-themed billboards in Phoenix and Tucson.

The ads turn the typical parental cannabis conversation on its head. “Have you talked to your parents about marijuana?” they ask.

As sticky as the slogan might be, the blast is the latest example of a broader trend. And in this case it’s not the message, it’s the medium.

If grocery giant Loblaw Cos. Ltd. gets its way, shoppers eventually will be able to walk out of many of its supermarkets with burgers, beer – and marijuana.

Canada: Victoria Votes to Allow Marijuana Edibles After Push from Seniors

Senior citizens in Victoria support council’s push to adopt a bylaw that allows edible pot products in medical marijuana dispensaries, despite health and safety concerns raised by the province’s medical health officer, says Mayor Lisa Helps.

Victoria’s council voted in favour of preparing a medical marijuana business bylaw Thursday that permits the sale of edible pot products, keeps marijuana businesses 200 metres apart from each other and prohibits any forms of advertising.

The bylaw will also keep the dispensaries 200 metres away from schools and licensed daycares.
