Rule number one of marketing marijuana: Avoid stoner clichés

"When you think about a cannabis product or service, it doesn't lend itself to all of your traditional types of advertising and marketing, not only because of legality but because you have a very curious consumer - we're going to make a gross generalization - who is 'clueless' as well," she told CNBC.com.

"So if you have a clueless, curious person, even if you were a cannabis enthusiast, how could you really be educated [about the product] unless it was part of your job or your life's passion? This combination – of clueless and curious - is very interesting because it lends itself to trial and that's what you want. People are willing to try and have varied experiences."

California: Properties Zoned For Marijuana Use Becoming A Hot Commodity

With recreational use of marijuana set to be legalized for Californians in 2018 and with more cities in San Diego County approving medical use, investors in the marijuana industry are snatching up properties with the hopes of getting a piece of the pot economy.

Some real estate brokers are calling this feeding frenzy the “green rush,” comparing pot investors to settlers who came to California in the 1800’s looking to strike it rich from gold mining.

In November, California voters approved Proposition 64, a measure allowing residents to recreationally consume marijuana.

City attorney: There's no reason Denver couldn't allow marijuana vaping

There is no state or city law that would prevent cannabis consumers from vaping marijuana in places that receive a social consumption permit.

Smoking joints and blunts would still be barred within yoga studios, concert venues and other establishments due to the restrictions put in place by the Colorado Clean Indoors Air Act. But the act leaves a loophole for vaping marijuana inside permitted businesses and venues in Denver, said city attorney Marley Bordovsky.

Bordovsky specializes in Denver’s code enforcement rules and sits on the Social Consumption Advisory Committee. The committee met for the second time Wednesday to continue ironing out suggested rules and regulations related to Initiative 300.

Meanwhile, the local moratoriums -- temporary bans on permitting and zoning for dispensaries -- are intended as status quo placeholders while officials wait for lawmakers, or the Department of Health, to impose new rules.

Jamaica: Ganja Babie, Other Trademarks In The Pipeline

More than a dozen applications to register ganja or marijuana trademarks are before the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO), but the status of most is still pending.

There are two herbal teas, two ganja cafes, a number of festival trademarks and clothing lines, including a Ganja Babie, in JIPO's database.

Trademarks represent the physical brand or logo associated with a business entity. And companies tend to be protective of their names - for example, one of the trademark applications in Jamaica was dropped after social media company Instagram LLC objected.
