Cannabis stocks don't take long to get high

Global sharemarkets are going to pot as a large number of marijuana companies have listed in recent years, including on the Australian sharemarket.

Cann Group, which listed on the ASX earlier this month, is trading at A57c a share compared with its A30c a share IPO price. This strong sharemarket performance is consistent with the performance of most listed pot companies over the past 12 months.

When are we going to see a marijuana company listed on the NZX? How long will it be before we have the opportunity to invest in companies that could be called Coromandel Gold and Northland Green?

Recreational marijuana in Canada to take less than 1% out of booze sales: Study

he recreational marijuana industry is expected to take a sip of less than one per cent initially out of annual Canadian alcohol sales once it becomes legal, a new analysis says.

The Anderson Economic Group, a business consulting firm in New York, says legalization of marijuana would sap $160 million out of the country’s $22.1 billion booze sector, rising as use of the drug expands.

While there are numerous unknowns governing the sale of marijuana, the Anderson Economic Group based its projections on alcohol sales in U.S. states that have legalized the drug. It also took into account a host of factors in Canada including spending patterns, income and demographics.

Marijuana startups get new funding from 'streaming' deals

Some major players in the Canadian cannabis industry are bankrolling smaller Canadian marijuana companies, using so-called "streaming" deals to finance their growth plans.

The deals could allow those backers to take leading roles in distributing wholesale and retail marijuana under the forthcoming legal regime.

Streaming is a business model traditionally associated with the mining industry. A backer provides upfront money for infrastructure and capital expenditures in exchange for the right to some of the miner's future production.

Cannabis Wheaton, which identifies itself as "the world's first marijuana streaming company," chose its name in reference to well-known silver streaming firm Silver Wheaton, said chairman and CEO Chuck Rifici.

Jamaica to See If Weed Can Help Blaze up Tourism

A special task force to inform the Tourism Ministry on using cannabis tourism for the promotion of the sector, is to be established.

Tourism Minister Edmud Bartlett said that although cannabis is still subject to Schedule I of the United States Controlled Substances Act – the most tightly restricted category reserved for drugs not currently accepted for medical use – the government is satisfied that the industry can benefit from the nutraceutical value of the drug.

“We are going to designate an area and, while I am not creating the policy, I am indicating that within that framework there is going to be discussions,” he said.

The Future of Cannabis May Lie in Terpene Isolation

Terpenes represent the aromatic building blocks of our natural world. They exist in virtually any plant that contains a fragrance, which also happens to include cannabis. It would seem natural that the pursuit of preserving the terpenes that exist within our favorite plant profiles would also translate into the cannabis extract industry. After all, cannabis has been known to carry over a hundred known terpenes that are largely responsible for creating our favorite strain flavor profiles.

Canadian Cannabis Company Starts Exporting To Cayman Islands

The shipment makes Canada the second country, after Jamaica, to export cannabis oils to Cayman since the product was legalised here last October.

While the Legislative Assem-bly legalised the oils for medicinal purposes, it did not approve local production, requiring legally viable product to come from abroad.
