Nevada governor vetoes 2 marijuana bills, others awaiting action

Gov. Brian Sandoval has vetoed bills to create apprenticeships in the legal marijuana business and to add opioid addiction to the list of qualifying medical conditions for obtaining a medical marijuana card.

Late Wednesday, Sandoval vetoed Senate Bill 416, which would have allowed licensed medical marijuana businesses to partner with labor unions for medical marijuana apprenticeships. The bill is not “consistent with federal regulations governing approval of apprentice programs,” according to a statement released by Sandoval’s office.

The Legislature passed the bill on near party-line votes, clearing the Senate 12-9 and the Assembly 26-13.

Air Force veteran went from flight chief to marijuana cultivation

Inside his large corner office at the marijuana cultivation facility, U.S. Air Force veteran Ryan Reese kept a model U-2 on his desk and a copy of Time magazine – a special edition about the booming business of pot.

In the past two years, Reese has traded one world for the other.
The 38-year-old father of three retired as a flight chief from Beale Air Force Base in August 2015. His 18-year military service included time in Afghanistan and working as a mechanic on U-2s, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft.

BC: Island marijuana producer to undergo major expansion, offer 100 new jobs

A licensed marijuana producer on the outskirts of Duncan is poised to become one of the Cowichan Valley’s largest employers once the expansion of its new facility is complete.

Harvest One Cannabis Inc. currently grows more than 4,000 marijuana plants in its 16,000 square-foot space.

“We currently have 15 people on staff here and are currently growing as we expand,” said Michael Rykes, United Greeneries production manager. “We hope to have probably about 50 new people on the new site.”

The United Greeneries productions site will break ground on a greenhouse operation in the near future.

Once construction is complete, up to 100 jobs will hit the market starting at $20 an hour.

Cannabis Growers Overcome the Powerful Scent

Cannabis stinks, its opponents claim, comparing the scent of buds at harvest to skunks.

But beyond its fragrant nose, cannabis enterprise carries an aroma welcome even to many who shun pot: the smell of money.

Cash gushes from the emerging industry. It’s expected to soar to billions of dollars a year in California, with Santa Rosa’s CannaCom Valley at the heart of North Bay cannabis commerce. But cannabis operators must reckon with the reek, which makes some neighbors smoking mad.

At public hearings on cannabis policy held by Sonoma County’s board of supervisors, residents who live near cultivation complained to the board about its pungent smell — especially at harvest. Supervisors responded by banning cultivation in rural-residential zones.

Germany is becoming a hotbed for Canadian cannabis producers and we think this trend is just getting started.

Germany, the largest country in the European Union started 2017 by legalizing medical cannabis creating a major opportunity for cannabis businesses across the world. The legislation also will make cannabis available to people suffering from serious illnesses and available through health insurance plans.

These factors have led to a surge in the number of licensed Canadian medical cannabis producers focused on this market and we want to highlight some of the recent deals.

With Recreational Weed Sales Coming, What Will Happen to Medical Marijuana in Nevada?

The Denver dispensary is called Medicine Man and was founded on serving medical marijuana patients. Yet, since Colorado legalized recreational marijuana sales three years ago, few of the store's patrons have been making medicinal purchases.

“There’s less need for medical inventory because we have less medical customers,” said Andy Williams, owner and CEO of Medicine Man, one of Colorado’s largest legal marijuana stores selling both recreational and medical marijuana. “People don’t want to go through the hurdles to get their cards anymore.”
