Pnina Feldman's Cannabis Stock Queensland Bauxite Clears the Air on Andrew 'Dr Pot' Katelaris Confusion

A bit of notoriety is good for a medicinal cannabis start-up, but obviously not too much.

Pnina "Diamond Rose" Feldman's well known pot stock, Queensland Bauxite Ltd, had to clear the air on Monday as to the status of an employee at its 55 per cent owned Medical Cannabis Ltd (MCL) – company founder and secretary of the Hemp Party, Andrew Kavasilas.

"It has come to our attention that there has been some confusion between Andrew Kavasilas of (MCL) and Andrew Katelaris," said the ASX release.

Katelaris is the controversial deregistered doctor, known as Dr Pot, who was arrested recently and will face court in a few weeks after being charged with some cannabis-related offences.

How Sophisticated Branding Aims to Make You Rethink Cannabis

As the marijuana industry begins to mature, purveyors recognize the need to separate themselves with distinct branding. The hand-painted signs, bad puns, and Rastafarian flags that once defined the industry are giving way to sophisticated design that abandons aging stoners in favor of more upscale clientele.

Before marijuana was legalized, the plant’s design aesthetic was somewhere between the tie-dyed patterns of the Grateful Dead, the Rastafarian color palette of Bob Marley, and the Jamaican flag. But that’s starting to change.

Massachusetts Tobacco Wholesalers Want in on Recreational Marijuana

Plenty of companies are angling to get in on the coming legalized pot bonanza. Some, however, are lobbying the state to carve off a piece just for them: cigarette wholesalers.

The companies that track, deliver, and tax all the cigarettes sold in Massachusetts are seeking a similar monopoly on recreational marijuana when sales begin in 2018. They’ve asked state officials to require marijuana producers to sell all their pot products through them — just as most alcohol has to pass through a wholesaler on its way to bars and package stores.

Hydropothecary Says a Former Employee Sprayed Cannabis Plants with Banned Pesticide

A medical marijuana grower in Gatineau says it has found the source of a banned pesticide that tainted its products, causing the company to temporarily stop sales and issue two recalls.

The Hydropothecary Corporation says an employee sprayed “a small number of plants” with myclobutanil, a pesticide not approved for use on cannabis, without the company’s knowledge or approval.

Industry Insiders Slam Lack of Women on Boards of Corporate Cannabis

Since co-founding the Green Organic Dutchman, a medical cannabis producer based in Ancaster, Ont., Jeannette VanderMarel says she has often found herself the only woman in a room full of men.

"There seems to be, at times, a bit of condescension," says VanderMarel, a former nurse who delved into the medical marijuana sector after losing her daughter in 2003 to Dravet syndrome, or uncontrollable seizure disorder.

Her experience as a woman in the young, fast-growing industry is not uncommon.

Women are under-represented in the boardrooms of corporate Canada, holding just 12 per cent of board seats at 677 TSX-listed companies analyzed by provincial regulators last year. But the disparity is larger in the medical marijuana business.

Canopy Health Innovations President and Director Marc Wayne on the Future of Medical Cannabis

David Brown talks with Marc Wayne about his company's plans for the future, and how the medical market will play out in the face of a recreational market.

Marc Wayne, President of Canopy Health Innovations, says Canada is entering a golden age in cannabis research, as access to supply and interest from the public and private sector increases. While much of the attention is currently on the future economic potential of a recreational cannabis market, Wayne says he sees an enormous amount of potential in the medical sector as well. Access to a well-regulated supply of consistent product allowing for more clinical research and more confidence in the medical sector will mean significant advances in cannabis science, with Canada at the forefront.
