Aurora Cannabis Inc. ("Aurora" or the "Company") (TSX:ACB) (OTCQB:ACBFF) (Frankfurt: 21P; WKN:A1C4WM) and CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:CMED) ("CanniMed") today announced that Aurora has completed the acquisition of all issued and outstanding shares of CanniMed Therapeutics Inc. ("CanniMed") that it did not already own.

TORONTO — Canada's main stock index recovered from an earlier drop Tuesday to close the day slightly ahead.

The S&P/TSX composite index rose 11.05 points to 15,618.93.

In New York, markets were mixed, but also recovered from bigger drops earlier.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 64.10 points to 24,099.05. At one point Tuesday, it had shed more than 350 points.

The S&P 500 index gained 6.75 points to 2,654.80 and the Nasdaq composite index advanced 64.43 points to 7,130.70.

The June gold contract shed US$12.40 to US$1,306.80 an ounce and the July copper contract declined about three cents to roughly US$3.04 a pound.

Some Sahtu chiefs in the Northwest Territories are disappointed the territorial government won't let their First Nations sell cannabis when it becomes legalized.

Colville Lake Chief Wilbert Kochon said he and other leaders in the region had a property in Norman Wells lined up last year from which they could sell pot once it became legal. They wanted to sell cannabis and "have a little control over what's going to be coming into our communities," Kochon said to CBC.

But it doesn't look like that plan will become a reality.

"We were shot down right away," said Wilfred McNeely Jr., chief of the K'asho Got'ine Community Council.

A budding cannabis retailer isn't swayed from setting up shops in Edmonton, even if they have to pay 10 times more for a business licence than a liquor store.

Fire & Flower moved its headquarters from Toronto to Edmonton this year and has applied for business licences to open 16 stores in the capital city.

Nathan Mison, vice-president of government and stakeholder relations for Fire & Flower, said the company is OK with potentially paying the $2,500 a year for a licence compared to $235 for liquor stores. 

City eyes one-block gap between cannabis dispensaries and schools — except downtown.

A Regina city councillor says it's a "mistake" to exclude the downtown core from proposed rules on buffer zones for cannabis dispensaries.  

"We have as much a need to protect children in the downtown area as we do in any other area of the city," Ward 2 Coun. Bob Hawkins said.

A new report headed to this week's planning commission meeting proposes that pot shops not be allowed to operate in Regina within a block of schools, day cares and parks — unless those places are located downtown.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority has allotted six permits for retail cannabis permits to open up in the city. 

The North American Marijuana Index, comprised of the leading cannabis stocks in the U.S. and Canada, was on the rise.

The index was up nearly 2% this afternoon to 248.49.

Florida-based company mCig Inc (OTCMKTS:MCIG) was a big mover on the index after announcing that it received three licenses to cultivate, distribute, and manufacture recreational cannabis in the state of California. Shares jumped 5.4% to US$0.22.

With legal adult-use marijuana around the corner in Canada, companies are looking to lock down supply chains while licensed growers work at fever pitch to increase the size and frequency of their harvests. Emerald Health Therapeutics (TSX-V: EMH) (OTC: EMHTF) is working on both, on Monday saying that it has signed a supply agreement to buy nearly half of the marijuana production of Pure Sunfarms this year and again in 2019.

Pure Sunfarms is a 50/50 joint venture between Emerald Health and Village Farms International (TSX: VFF) (OTC: VFFIF).

Based upon current projections, the supply agreement will equate to somewhere between 21,000 and 24,000 kilograms of cannabis for Emerald Health. At the low end, that’s about 23 tons of pot.
