Who will invent the cotton gin of the cannabis industry?

Innovation has always fascinated me, and it’s one of the aspects that I enjoy about publishing a business magazine and being a part of the cannabis industry.

Because it’s been a black market endeavor for so long, the business of growing and selling marijuana hasn’t changed all that much in the past few decades prior to legalization. Now, with nearly half the country allowing medical marijuana, four states legalizing recreational cannabis, a majority of Americans supporting full legalization and the federal government seriously considering the removal of marijuana from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, the creative process can really get ramped up.

Cannabis Benchmarks Cultivates Price Transparency for Market Participants

Buyers and sellers in the legal cannabis industry might think they have a handle on market pricing, but legalized cannabis is still a fledgling industry with supply and demand in constant flux. With internal factors affecting individual cannabis cultivators and external factors shaping the regulatory landscape, cannabis as a commodity deserves comprehensive wholesale spot and forward price assessments so market participants can make informed decisions.

Budding 15 Minutes Of Fame? Reality TV Seeks Out Marijuana

As marijuana legalization sweeps the nation, reality TV is pursuing legalized marijuana businesses. It should not surprise us that America wants an inside look at these cutting edge “ghanjapreneurs.” Though reality TV shows may seem like a huge opportunity for the marijuana industry (just look at Weed Wars), the devil is always in the details. My law firm has handled legal matters for all sorts of reality TV shows, ranging from Whale Wars to Deadliest Catch to Real Weddings to Off Road Truckers, but what we are seeing with marijuana reality shows would put the most aggressive Hollywood agent to shame.

BuzzOn cannabis lounge opens in East Ottawa

The fuzz showed up at Wayne Robillard’s new joint exactly when he was rolling it out to reporters Monday.

Two polite cops walked into BuzzOn at 29 Montreal Rd. to collect information about the pot smoking “lounge” in Vanier.

Robillard put it all on the table for police and the press: Yes, it’s a place for people to bring their weed and smoke it.

When police left, Robillard inflated a vapour bag stretched tight with pot smoke and sucked it back for photographers.

Robillard, 51, doesn’t fear the law and he doesn’t have a medical marijuana licence. He quietly opened BuzzOn with two business partners on April 20 — 4/20, the equivalent of Super Bowl day for potheads — and plans to ramp up to a full opening this weekend.

Big Marijuana is scary. But not as scary as continuing prohibition

The spread of marijuana legalization in Colorado, Washington state, Oregon, and Alaska over the past few years means that more Americans can now legally buy and sell pot — but this has also given rise to a for-profit industry that may not have public health in mind.

As legalization opponents and drug policy experts put it, this new massive industry will mimic the worst parts of the tobacco and alcohol businesses, marketing marijuana to heavy drug users and encouraging more use and abuse — outcomes that even staunch legalization advocates wouldn't like.

UK: Cannabis café opens in Guildford to promote 'benefits' of drug

A cannabis ‘café and hotel’ has been opened in the urban area of Guildford to try to promote the ‘benefits’ of the class B drug which many think should be legalised.

The café owner set up the business in a bid to educate people on the medicinal properties of cannabis and also try to get himself off benefits by providing a new income.

The café is located in the flat he is a tenant of and provides refreshments, full dinners, and a varying meal deal offer which includes a cannabis cigarette, coffee, and a meal, to people who wish to come and smoke with others.

A price list ranging from teas and coffees to an overnight stay encourages people to smoke in what the owner describes as a safe and educated environment.
