Wana Brands, an edibles manufacturing company based in Boulder, Colorado, has created a line of cannabis capsules they've dubbed "Wana Caps" that could be big for medical marijuana patients. The goal was to offer an alternative consumption method to patients other than smoking or consuming edibles.

Two companies are teaming up to make it easier for pot businesses to track their products and comply with regulations, which may finally persuade banks to work with entrepreneurs in the industry.

The cannabis industry still has a banking problem. Although a growing number of states have legalized medical and/or recreational marijuana, it is still illegal under federal law. This makes most banks apprehensive about serving pot businesses.

Since 1970, all Cannabis plants have been classified as controlled substances by the federal government, but nearly half of all states, including Minnesota, now define hemp as distinct from marijuana.

Green Exchange had said Google approved its Loud Cannabis app and that the program had been available for months before getting pulled. The app allowed people who use marijuana for medical reasons to connect with growers and arrange to have the drug delivered to them.

Downloads of Loud Cannabis increased after the app received an award earlier this month, possibly leading Google to more closely examine the services offered, Green Exchange said Monday.

Law-makers, health officials, growers and customers all want a safe supply of cannabis so product testing and quality assurance are of critical importance as state by state, the legal marijuana market expands. This translates to a major business opportunity for well-run, well-capitalized technically advanced laboratories according to Matt Karnes who studies the cannabis market for his company, GreenWave Advisors, LLC.

As the social stigma associated with marijuana slowly evaporates with each passing year, it may be just a matter of time before the laws that govern drinking and driving are applied to smoking pot.
